Thanks to all of you exsmokers for support. 71 yr old retired nurse who quit 2 wks ago after yrears of starting/stopping (8 yrs once) & never sick like now. S ure more due to my age & lack of exercise, but definitely hard. Been in bed most of last 2 wks & feel deathly ill. I'm not giving up & will continue read your stories. I will say I do not agree that physical symptoms last only few days. Believe emotional aspect is longer lasting; still, believe years of smoking will produce profound physical synptoms for many months which makes it easier to bear knowing what to esxpect. But I think its misleading for medical community to state these sickly feelings, although self-limiting,are short term because they can last many months. C.A.

It's been so hard to find people online with similar experiences... thank goodness I found this thread and you guys!!!
I was on 20 cig's a day for over 20 years, and gave up 5 weeks ago. The really serious cravings and lethargy took around 10 days to pass (for the most part for me). But I caught a cold 2 weeks ago (was run down, and got caught in some really freezing air conditioning), and it doesnt matter how much i sleep, how much rest, how much vitamin C i take, I'm in a mind-fog, totally exhausted, and the stuffed up nose just won't shift! Blowing my nose all day every day for weeks. But when I think about it now, I also had what I thought was a fever on and off for 5 weeks. However, reading these accounts I think it must have been hot flushes (sweating multiple times a day at really weird time points).
The whole thing can be really confusing because you take your temperature and it looks fine (or low), then you sweat and sweat. Also, you think you're sick, then you got better, then fever came back so maybe you're still sick etc etc. Went to the nurse who checked ear nose throat and chest and said it all looks good apart from slightly irritated in nostrils. But wake up feeling totally exhausted and and with kind of flu-like symtoms.
Reading this thread, I can see that many people are getting these same symptoms according to different schedules. and im so glad to read this, because the doctor and many books say 'after 2 weeks the physical withdrawal is over' that may be, but the body's recovery process sure isn't!!! wow, recovery is a crazy process. our bodies must be in mega-shock at the clean out.
Thanks a lot for sharing your stories.

Hey everyone, I quit ever since having a health scare on August 1 2016 I had an episode of shortness of breath dizziness and seeing black stars. I called the ambulance on myself and the emergency room physician diagnosed me with bronchitis. It's now September 28th and about 2 months since I've last smoked. I still feel terrible waking up with a scratchy throat and stuffed nose that I have to clear so I can breathe through my nose. I'm experiencing chest pains in my lungs, and random surges of increased heartbeat. Also, I have extreme brain fog. I've been attending college and can't seem to do well on my exams. I'm enrolled in physics for engineering and calculus 2 and have failed both my first exams. The withdrawal is effecting me terribly. I can't even memorize half the things I study for. Oh, and I also stopped smoking marijuana heavy smoker in both departments.
Any advice, I really need help guys. In starting to think I may have a learning disorder or somethings terribly wrong with my health... Please

I quit 7 weeks ago and am still VERY foggy headed. Can't keep things straight in my head, can't remember things. It's terrible, but hopefully it will be gone soon! I've heard it can take up to a year for your brain to fully adjust to no nicotine. Yuck.

I have only read a few of these comments and am impressed with the power of propaganda. Despite all these ill effects of quitting, so many people are overruling their instincts - for compliance and think that quitting will be good for their health.
Listen to your body - thousands of years of evolution is far more trustworthy than the present set of 'experts' that have emerged in the last half century. In fact, the often suppressed, research has often found smoking tobacco has MANY beneficial effects and quitting many adverse ones. eg Increased risk of developing diabetes, ulcerative colitis, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases to name but a few. You may believe that it is worth denying yourself those benefits to prevent cancer or the other alleged risks oft repeated by anti-smoker propaganda - In fact as smoking prevalence has reduced, so called 'smoke related' illness has INCREASED.
This information (and more) is out there in the public domain and it is only a matter of time before it is widely accepted. Medical professionals should consider how this will impact on the perception of their competence and trustworthiness and take the time to look beyond anti-smoker propaganda - sooner, rather than later.

Are honestly trying to convince anyone that smoking poses no risks? That people should continue to smoke? That quitting poses more problems than smoking itself? Your sir are a fool.....

You may be having reactions to nicotine patch, are you wearing it 24 hrs a day? Sorry to say that you are still addicted, and will have big struggle again to get off patch. You are prolonging the trial. I suggest get off all nicotine ASAP. I am on day 18 of quitting , am replacing cigs with exercise, 5 minutes at a time.
