Hi all, I have just gotten some info from a friend that i hadent see for a long time, who had to inform me that they have been smoke free for the pass 16 month, i could not beleave it and had loads of question to ask. first of all aches and pain all over the body is something we have to live with until it subsided, stomach and belly problem have to play it part too, however once you get close to the year mark, things will start to subsided. this is grate, however sill a long way out for me and my lower hip and back and belly is killing me, but I am not going to give in. I also read some people had to give up their job because of these many problem, I too fall in to that bracket, and will be happy when it all over. To day is know 5 month and 1 week smoke free for me, looking back I thought I would have die by now, but thing is getting a little better, however aches [hips area and lower back] and belly problems I can do with out, but I must say thing is getting better. As my 9 months smoke free friend said , lets keep up the good work!

I had bad problems with constipation after I quit smoking. I had never been constipated a day in my life before quitting. I tried alot of things but finally I started taking the psyllium husk fiber CAPSULES. Walmart brand called "Daily Fiber" (don't get the other ones). I take 3 in the evening and life is good again. FYI: I was at 1 year and 1.5 months quit when I started these.

I wrote one van off from having such lack of energy after quitting smoking and fell asleep on the motorway recently I've since quit my job. Constantly coughing throat iritation from an already existing complaint I had with hernia digestive issues. I've had non stop ulcers eczema and regular throat infections. Unyet the c**p that's coming out of my body is called anxiety according to my doctor's they really haven't been a that helpful. am at my wits end I don't know what to do. Had already the checks and things for any serious problems. I smoked for a pack a day sometimes more in dusty environments as my line of work

So basically even after 1.5 years your digestive problems never resolved.
Wtf this is extremely worrying.

Doctors and gp's are full of sh*t. They don't even recognise the majority of quitting symptoms which is bizarre to me. When they don't have the awnser for something they tend to tell you that it's all in your head or you are depressed or anxious, they will then tell you that you need a anti depressant.
They are full of sh*t, a anti depressants will only throw your body out of wack even more.

It has now been almost 1 year 2.5 months and I am still having problems. The worst for me is the brain fog. I am beginning to think it is permanent. I wonder every day why I did this to myself and if I should just give in and start smoking again b/c I think I would have a life again. Sorry to sound so down. Is anyone else thinking they would be better off smoking again?

Well no but I've only quit for 6 months so far. If I was you and had done over a year and was still not feeling better I would definitely be questioning if it was worth it.
Are you feeling depressed/anxious because that can cause brain fog.
How old are you? How long did you smoke

I am 55, smoked since 20. I don't think this is depression but if it is, I would rather smoke than take anti depressants from what I have heard. I just need my brain to work again so I can focus and remember things. It started when I quit smoking, so it is not age related.
If you are only at 6 months, I would tell you to stick with it. I did notice a BIG improvement at 1 year. I believe I remember an improvement around 6 months also.

Thanks. I will.
My only issue is I feel like I have chronic inflammation in my gut, my appetite is poor and I keep switching from constipation to diarrhea. I've also stacked on a sh*t load of weight and my hairs gone thin.
I've had every blood test and even a colonoscopy.
Im just so sick of all of it. I don't understand why after 6 months I'm not seeing any benefits of quitting.
There's different anti depressants with different side effects, the worst side effect being a numb penis, if you are not sure whether you are depressed or not then I would say you are probably not. How's your anxiety? Are you often bored?

I understand being mad about NOT seeing any benefits from quitting. That's why we quit, so we will feel better and live longer. It sucks to feel worse for so long.
Have you tried a probiotic? It sounds like that might really help your situation.
I get frustrated b/c I don't remember what I am doing or how to do it and then I don't do anything to avoid the frustration. I just have to believe it will get better. Hopefully it will before I give in and smoke. And there is no guarantee that going back to smoking will fix the problems that quitting caused.
Good luck to you.

I've tried probiotics and even gluten and grain free diets, nothing works. I may just give in and try a anti depressant.
My brain fog lasted around 3 months so Im surprises you still have it.

I don't have an answer but I too quit 9 months ago and the bloating and constipation seems worse instead of better. I'm thin but look pregnant I'm at my wits end but I'm certain I won't go back to smoking. I've always eaten healthy and exercise for most of my life. Doctors don't believe us either. Someone needs to find a remedy to this for us. Ugh!

I quit four months ago and have most of the same symtoms as you. Especially the bowel problem. Having a battery of tests being done. This month going to a Gastro Doc. Haven't mentally felt right in weeks forcing myself to keep up with daily life and my excersing.
