Thank you for your letter, I am a 70 Year old woman who smoked 1-1/2 pack for 50 years and just quit 2 months ago and feeling terribly ill, irritable, trouble sleeping, palpatations, really bad acid reflux, etc. I have thought seriously the past few days of going back smoking but went to see my doctor yesterday and he said a lot of people experience these symptoms for awhile and hopefully I will feel better soon. I'm going to try and get out walking in hopes that I can shake these cobwebs from my brain.

OMG! I KNEW IT! Thank you so much for this information. I thought I was going crazy. I so rarely get sick and now, since I stopped smoking, I'm sick ALL THE TIME. CHRONIC!

Stayed quit for 2 months and still feeling hellish :( I had the exact same, including what you mentioned about losing weight.. The chest tightness drove me crazy, so I insisted on getting a chest x-ray so that I can calm down a little bit.. thank God, it came back clear.
Anxiety is a b***h , I've never experienced such intense feelings of doom and gloom in my life :((
OP, if you are reading this, please do tell when did it get better for you?

At least, since, I have been so stressed out about my health, I have zero desire to smoke!

Same thing here :( Quit 2 months ago after smoking for almost 10 years , last couple of years at a rate of almost a pack a day.. I am in my mid-20s and I was always feeling healthy and good while I smoked, never had a smokers cough or anything..
Aaand since I quit, it has been like holy sh*t (!!!) - everything hurts, symptoms come and go - fatigue, chest congestion, sore throat, sinus congestion, sinus headaches, tension headaches, lightheartedness.. Not to mention the psychological side of it - heightened anxiety, feeling down, insomnia, lack of concentration..

How long ago did you quit?

I gave up smoking 9 months ago after 40 years on 20 a day. I have never felt so ill as I do now. Breathless on any exertion, pain in stomach, tired. I keep reading that it will get better but WHEN?? I have also had chest x rays ( all clear) and had chest infection and colds. This is a nightmare! Why don`t people tell you that it is awful and at least you would be prepared. Thought I would feel great after kicking the habit.

It will be 2 years quit this August 2017: I kept a journal of my "quit". I never had any health issues while smoking for 35 years. I am an Opera singer. It never effected my craft, Strong breathing etc. Soon after I quit, I developed throat problems that went on for over a year!!! Constant dry throat, croaking sound, Irritated all of the time... Got to the point were I had to get an Endoscopy to see what was going on... Nothing really was found. Doctor said mild irritation, maybe from silent Gerd. Finally one day, I really got a bad sore throat, were I had small puss pimples on the back of my throat. After a couple days they went away, and so did my throat problems just like that. Another issue is depression. I have always been anxious and had a little bit of Seasonal Depression. After I quit it was 10 times worse. To the point of being prescribed lexapro. It is still a battle. I really don't have the urge to smoke very often. Just want to feel better!!!

Quit smoking it's been one year. I'm sick no energy and having both lung and heart pains. Tourcher from past 6 month's always thinking about this pain and ciggarete. Feel like I want to die . I'm feeling like I'm alone in this world and no one to support me.
