Im now on my 3 months and a half, My worst symptoms is Chest Pain on and off from the start of my quitting. I most of the symptoms written here. this past few days my chest pain is worst I feel sharp pain in the middle of my chest for few seconds then gone and I will get another pain from different part of my chest really scary always thought I have a cardiovascular disease or some kind of ailment in my lungs. I was hoping that I would be better after reaching my 3rd month but I was wrong. most of the info in the net tell you you will get better after few weeks there wrong. Maybe they dont know what they are saying or Its just they dont experience nicotine withdrawal at all. I hope someone here who quit years ago and tell them their situation and how long does this last.

Hi Anthony,
Today is 1 year and 3 months for me. It has been h*ll. I had health issues before I quit that made things MUCH worse so I am not the right person to compare to. I noticed improvements at about 5 months and then again at 1 year. Since the 1 year mark, I have some good days and then it gets bad again but the good days are getting much better and lasting longer so I am hopeful that this nightmare will eventually be over. Hopefully, your situation will not last as long as mine. Most people do better much sooner.
Have you gone to the doctor? Be careful with chest pains. You are right about other people's experience. Some people just don't have it that bad. Lucky them. Doctors could not help me. I just had to wait it out.
Hang in there.

I am having the same problem. Quit 40days now, after 40 years of smoking. I have been sick ever since. I won't start again, I was just hoping to feel better. Not worse. It helps to read these stories so I don't feel alone. As someone said most sites dealing with quitting don't mention this stuff.

Good for you. I have not check here in awhile. This site helped me so much when I first quit. Had all the symptoms everyone here has. Took 6 months to feel better and a year to be normal again. I have been to ER 3 or 4 times after first quitting because of breathing issues. I now know it was due to anxiety. Today, 4 years later I feel fine and so glad that I no longer smoke. Keep it up the crazy feelings will pass in time.

Hey everybody, just wanted to put in my two cents. First of all thanks for the topic, it seems it helped me out and everybody else as well. I've been a smoker for 7 years, puffing around a pack, a pack and 4-5 more. I've decided to quit cold turkey, after I watched a movie which is one of a very famous book (lets keep it at that). So far I've experienced acid reflux, stomach aches, lack of concentration and a very persistent feeling of being down. I read some pretty horrible things here and I really do hope I don't get to that point, my heart goes out to anyone experiencing them. My question is to those who suffer from depression after quitting. If anyone knows, is it truly a state of depression or is that still the habit doing the talking? I'm asking because to myself I think if it is in face a full blown depressive state, maybe smoking isn't that bad... I am a very neurotic individual and I find dealing with stress pretty hard, any advice would be appreciated.

I quit smoking cold turkey about a year and a half ago. I had experienced smokers cough and apparently had costodondritis from excessive coughing. I was convinced I had lung cancer or something and my newest baby was allergic so quitting seemed like my best bet.
I suffered mild withdrawals not too bad but my stomach began to hurt. My ribs and epigastric are kept hurting. Extreme anxiety and panic followed the pain. I began getting acid reflux and gerd symptoms. Then night sweats, tingling hand and feet, headaches, fatigue, papulataions. Skin crawling, chills and sweats, esophageal spasms (sometimes painless but scary), and widespread pain.
I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, costocondritis, liver disease, thyroid growths, hyperthyroidism, gerd, ibs, anxiety, esophageal spasms and the list goes on. The funny thing is that while smoking I had a cough and some breathing problems but otherwise I was pretty healthy. I has regular check ups because I had 6 children and never had issues other than with my kidneys and stones. My stress has increased and the pain and issues has increased my anxiety. I fee like I am dying and I can't get my focus off of that. I have done lots of research and the issues could have been covered by smoking and a few like digestive could be caused by smoking and quitting. I am still not sorry for quitting and I can tell a difference in the way I feel and breathe.
