I noticed a rash in my groin area and scrotum few weeks ago. Very soon red and itchy patches developed and my scrotum looked “flat”. I went to see physician about that. His diagnose was Tinea cruris. He gave me some anti-fungal cream to treat infected area. Please, tell me what causes this infection and if it is contagious.

Tinea curtis is infection of the groin caused by anthropophile fungi (Epidermophyton floccosum and Tricophyton rubrum). This fungi feeds on dead skin cells and it is harmless. You have all common symptoms: patches in groin area and scrotum, itchying, I am only confused with that “flat” adjective for scrotum!? Beside the cream that you have been using as treatment, general hygiene is important and change clothes, daily, especially underwear.
