I went to another very reputable, and incredibly well known Dr. about a month ago and total cost for the operation and after care was $10,875.00. Without the rx that they make from your platelets to aid in healing, though, it would have been $10,000.00. I'd expect it to be much higher then $6,000.00 or you're kidding yourself.

This is for "Guest" I was very happy to hear that you actually had rhino with him, I don't care really how much i have to pay, I want the best. Do you have any pics or anyothr information you'd share, maybe about the recovery and how closely your nose came to what you'd envisioned, did he use any computer imaging? Anything else you can say will be extremely helpful in considering this , Thanks so much!!!

I grew up in L.A., have my original nose (it's a very nice nose, thank you very much), but I have seen a few Kanodia jobs--some of which were beautiful but nonetheless fixed-looking and a few, which simply looked fix.

The best nose person in the world is Jack Sheen, M.D., now retired. However, before you make a commitment you might want to call his office (in Santa Barbara, and I still think they answer the phone or if you look him up, online, you might be able to access an e-mail), and they/he might be willing to give you a recommendation for the best person (to whom you may have to travel).

Sheen wrote the book on rhinoplasty, and many girls from my high school had Sheen noses. Beautiful, beautiful work--nicer than Kanodia, but I would definitely defer to Sheen's recommendation, if he'll give one.

Best of luck.

Dr. Kanodia is one of only a handful of surgeons who still do the more difficult "closed" rhinoplasty. He will not cut into your nostrils or cut the outside of the septum. Instead, he makes the incisions INSIDE your nostrils, minimizing healing time and visible scarring. Most surgeons today just cut your septum and peel the outside of your nose back to do an "open" rhinoplasty, leaving you with a scar on the underside of your nose.

Dr. Kanodia has years and years of experience and is worth the extra dollars. I am so thrilled with the results. His "work" is impossible to spot in the real world because it never looks "done." He's an artist. Go and review before and after photos if you're unsure.

The consult is about $200, but that gets applied toward your surgery fee if you go forward with the procedure. Everyone in his office from the receptionists to the nurses, support staff, and anesthesiologist is professional and caring.

I had minimal down time (I took two weeks off work). I stayed in bed the first few days and felt great after about four days, but still had the residual bruising around the eyes (looks like black eyes) for a few more days, so while I could have gone back to my desk job after a week, it would've taken a little more make-up than I prefer to wear. After the second week, no bruising or anything -- you couldn't even tell I had it done except my nose was awesome.

People don't really "notice" that your nose has changed. They comment that you look great, well rested, or "did you lose some weight?" or "did you change your hair?" Knowing this in advance, I changed my hair a little (highlights, slightly shorter cut) before I went back to work so people would naturally think that was it.

Before the surgery, I also had had breathing difficulty on one side due to a childhood injury, and he corrected that as well. If you're having breathing problems or other medical related problems, talk to Dr. Kanodia about it. He can almost surely correct nasal or septum related breathing issues you're having -- which may be covered partially or entirely by your insurance.

Price is going to vary depending on whether you have both internal corrections and external corrections or just one or the other, and your out-of-pocket could vary depending on whether your corrections are medically necessary to cure breathing issues so partly covered by your insurance or strictly cosmetic. (You mentioned you always had "problems" with your nose, so I'm not sure whether you meant only cosmetic or whether breathing or other issues are involved.) I would estimate that you could pay around $10,000 or so depending on the complexity of your individual case. This is a little more than the "average" rhinoplasty figures you might find out there on the internet, but remember that any cited averages are going to include new doctors charging basement rates to get practice on you. Do research galore before you let anyone cut into your face. You can be confident with Dr. Kanodia -- he is a skilled surgeon with decades of experience and is truly a rhinoplasty artist so is well worth the extra money -- not only for the results but also for the peace of mind throughout the process.

Sorry to be so long winded, but I just cannot say enough good things about Dr. Kanodia and STRONGLY recommend you save up the extra few bucks to go see the best rather than just go to a bargain doctor with a scalpel and price sheet.

My only regret: I wish I would have done it ten years ago!

I initially saw Dr. Kanodia in March because I wanted to be sure to "get in" to surgery in early June timeframe (my vacation time), and that was enough lead time in my case.

Heading toward the winter holidays, though, I am not sure what a reasonable lead time would be. It's possible that a lot of people would want their surgeries finished before they see friends and family for the holidays, and others might only be able to get time off work during the holiday, so it might be a popular time to book. Also, it's possible that Dr. Kanodia has some time off during the holidays limiting his available surgery dates.

*** You should probably just call his office, mention your October consult time and your scheduling concerns to the office staff (who handle the scheduling) and just ask how realistic a Nov/Dec surgery booking is looking. ***

If it's already booked up but your vacation or free time schedule is flexible, they might be able to put you on a "waiting list" in case someone in your desired timeframe has a schedule change or postponement. A waiting list call will never be totally last minute (that is, you will never get a call like "someone just cancelled; can you come in tomorrow?"), because there's a pre-surgery protocol you need to follow. You will need to take some prescribed antibiotics and avoid things like caffeine and ibuprofin for a couple weeks or so leading up to the surgery. So the most "last minute" it would be is a couple of weeks away.

Expect to pay a total of $12,000. Nine for Raj and three for the anesthesia. Consult is $200 and comes off the total cost of the surg if you go with him.

Just wondering if anyone knows if Dr. Kanodia offers a payment plan for the cost of the rhinoplasty or if it all has to be paid in one lump sum?

I saved the money in advance, so wasn't looking for financing myself, but I seem to recall that I needed to pay at the time the surgery was scheduled -- well ahead of the actual surgery date. I am not aware of any doctor's-office financing options, such as a payment plan, and don't recall one ever being mentioned during the process. There is also a sign posted in the reception area that payment is due at time of service -- that is, they don't just mail you a bill to pay later.

However, it has been over a year since I had my surgery, and I never actively looked for any alternate financing options since I already had the cash, so there may be something I'm not aware of. You should verify payment options with Dr. Kanodia's office. Also, if Dr. Kanodia's office does not offer financing options and you strongly prefer to get the surgery before you've saved up the cash, you could always look into a personal loan at your own bank or credit union.
