Hi I had a full vaginal hysterectomy and posterior/anterior vaginal repair (prolapse repair) 12 weeks ago. I still have pain after a days full-time work. (been working 4 out of 5 days a week) My work does involve being on my feet most of the day, walking, standing occasionally sitting but after a couple of hours I begin to have pain so intense that by the time I get home I can't do anything. To cook dinner I have to get around on a chair with wheels. I don't do much housework. I have put it down to not enough rest and being on my feet too much. Has anyone else experienced pain from prolapse repair for this long? Some days I feel like everything is hanging out! My doctor says everything looks ok but don't understand the pain after such a long time.

Hi there,
I had a total VH done on Oct 7th. After the surgery I was a little bloated but was up to use the washroom within an hour of waking up. The nurses were so amazed that I was able to do that and the surgeon as well, that I actually got to go home that night!
The ride home, which was about 30 minutes, was rough and I paid for it once I got home. MY biggest problem was having a BM. I was very gassy and actually had to take laxatives.
I had minimal bleeding and I didn't require a catheter or any packing after my surgery.
It's been about 2 1/2 weeks since my surgery and after about 5 days from my surgery, I felt quite normal - like I didn't even have surgery! That is the problem!!
I think I've over done it and have been out and about a bit and the last week I've been very tired and today I actually have quite a bit of cramping and lower back pain.
I'm fortunate enough that I can work from home and started doing so on Oct 12th and can work at my liesure. However, with the recent cramping pain that I am having, I may be in for a visit to the doctor unless is goes away... It's been a balance of resting and moving for me but finding that balance is difficult as I am one to be on the move all the time..
I suggest that once you have the surgery, really try hard to rest and not do too much even though you may feel fine especially for the first two weeks. I don't suggest driving for the first two weeks and when you are able to drive, only short distances..
I didn't have any morphine for my surgery afterwards and just received some Tylenol 3's and some anti-inflammatory suppositories, which taken together really helped those first few days. Right now all I take is the odd Extra Strength Tylenol.
Over all, the surgery is well worth it if you are having any sort of problems and not planning on having kids...

Hi. I had a vaginal hysterectomy 2 days ago. I had my right ovary & cervix removed. By far the easiest surgery I ever had. No pain except trapped gas pain. If you are to have this surgery I suggest you get GasX & Miralax prior to surgery so you are ready to take them when you get home. The trapped gas can be in shoulders, under ribs & in your back. I have been using a heating pad on my back to help with trapped gas. Don't eat gassy foods. Take Miralax to avoid constipation. And of course the Gas X really helps.

Hello All,

Not sure who will read this but I had a hysterectomy to remove my uterous and cervix on the the 12th of May 2011.  The night after the surgery I had some pain similar to bad menstral cramps.  I was given percuset for the the pain.  The next day I had very little pain.  I was instructed by the doctor to urinate on my own before I could go home. They removed the cathedar and I was able to pee ( a little) on my own.  I went home and the next day I felt great.  If I hadn't been to the hospital and wasn't aware that I had surgery, I would have never known it.  In fact, I felt so wonderful that I wanted to get up and start moving around.  Fortunately for me I had my husband make me lay down.  Within the next few days I felt even better. But the following week I realized that I had to go to the restroom (urinate) a bit more than usual.  I told my doctor and she had me deliver a urine sample.  The next day she called to tell me that I had a UTI (very common with this type of procedure).  I had my husband pick up the amoxicillin and within a few days the urine frequency stopped.  Something I forgot to mention was, initially I had trouble passing stool, but that problem went away about the fourth day and I was able to go pretty reguarly with the help of stool softeners.  It is now six weeks post op and I feel like a new person.  I don't have anymore horrible periods caused by enlarged fibroids and I am no longer required to pop a birth-control pill each morning.

Bottom Line:  I am so happy that I decided to have this procedure. My sex drive is high and I am at the end of my six weeks.  I'm sure you all know what that means.   This post is dedicated to the women who are nervous or hesitant to have this operation.  I had mine done vaginally and as I stated earlier in the post, if I wasn't the one who had it done, I would have never known something took place.  My body feels better than it ever has.  Good luck to you ladies and on with your life.

Sincerely,

Tmarie

Hi I had a vaginal hysterectomy (uterus & cervix) 2 weeks ago, I had all the colors of the rainbow discharges but must admit the constipation was the worst of the pain ( I had some pain and discomfort), the first week I would go dizzy, nauseous and a cold sweat, just to go to the bathroom, this started getting less painful as I went into the second week and if you have the same I found toe relax and not tense up makes the pain less, some days I felt fine other times I was in a lot of pain, more recently that I have reached the 2 week mark I woke up and was bleeding excessively, like water running out of me, is this normal after 2 weeks, the strange thing is I don't have much pain just the annoying bleeding and having to change pads often. I haven't bled like this since I had the surgery is this something I should worry about? The bleeding is bright red and watery and I would say I have lost atleast 2 cups of blood today.

i had a total vaginal hysterectomy on 4/11/2012. Today is 4/25/2012, i don't have as much pain as I originally expected but I do still have pain. Also just 5 days after the procedure I developed a yeast infection and now 10 days later I am being treated for a UTI. the problem is that the dr said my urine was good but I have all the sypmtoms of UTI. Frequent urination every half hr, pain while urinating, and pelvic and back pain. I have lots of pelvic pain and sporadic pains shoot through my vagina. Not sure why. I was instructed by my dr not to lift more than 5lbs for 4weeks. That clearly cuts out work for me, I'm a preschool teacher

Hi, I had a vaginal Hysterectomy a week ago. I am so amazed at how good I feel. There was ,like strong period pain for a few days and wind pain, but getting up to move around as soon as they say is truly the best thing. Don't get me wrong , you will feel tired and sometimes a bit achy, but compared to and abdominal incision, it is so much better. good luck

I had my surgery one week ago today, like they say you feel good soon after but don't fool yourself, It was an easy surgery but now I am tired and constipated, running low on pain pills, they work good for the cramping, nothing severe.
