Hi Im Anne. I had surgery on the 8/3/17 . 7 days ago. I have had so many mixed messages and confusing information that I really do not know what to expect and I fear that I have already damaged my foot because of rushed and conflicting medical advice given. The surgeon said it would take 2 to 3 weeks recovery!!!
After surgery, left foot, excision of neuroma and fibrous tissue in 2rd and 3rd metatarsal space, dorsal ( above foot) if I understand that correctly. I was informed in recovery that I would have an appointment on the 13th only 5 days after surgery.
I thought this was strange as I read everywhere that it is 10 to 14 days after surgery? After recovery and returning to the ward a physiotherapists came gave me a boot and I asked could I go to the toilet? She said that would be fine and that this would count as my getting out of bed and walking before discharge. I put the boot on, gingerly put my foot to the floor and I said only on the heel isn't it? The physiotherapist said no you can use your whole foot. I hobbled ( full of injected pain relief from op and morphine) mostly on my heel as it hurt otherwise. On returning I felt a seering pain. Ouch! Just had an opelation after all. The physiotherapists had gone on my return.
I noticed my foot was bleeding through the bandage. When a nurse came I showed her and she said she let the surgeon know.
The surgeon came to speak to me, Said all had gone well he had removed a quite large neuroma and lots of fibrous tissue, bleeding was not unusual and he would see me on the 13th. I asked him about walking and repeated physios advice. He said no only on the heel and elevate when resting. The nurse returned with a stool to raise my leg and advised me that I must move about and not take to my bed because of the risks of blood clots.
5 painful days later on codien and paracetamol, although it felt manageable with the pain that 5th day. I went to my orthopaedic appointment walking on my heel up those corridors was not great. A nurse took off my dressing, it was plastered in dried blood and very painful , she was not gentle.
The surgeon popped in asked me did I have numbness, how did it feel , had I lost sensation in my 3rd toe. I said I could feel a slight reduction in pain for the first time since op, yes my toe was numb. And wiggling them is hit and miss with the end 3.But it's only been 5 days. He looked surprised and no said no its been a week. Err. No! I asked was there anything I should be doing? He replied resting. A thinner dressing was re-applied and an appointment for 10 days later made.
The next day ( 6th) my foot feels swollen, stabbing pains and hot. It is extremely painful and I have been reduced to tears.
I'm I suffering post surgery depression?
Is the pain usually like this?
Have I made a mistake having surgery?
Any advice ?

I hope so too. Good luck. I am glad that there are successful outcomes and I hope I'm one of those.

There is no mention of ice in here. I was on an ice 30 minutes on, ice 30 minutes off routine whenever I was awake for several weeks after my surgery. It helps to keep swelling down and reduce some of the pain.

I also have the hard ball at the bottom of my foot. Has anyone found any information as to how to treat. My foot is so much worse after the surgery.

My husband had an operation on both of his feet. The surgeon operated from the top when he found the cysts he froze them and then cut them off. He is wearing special sandals he has had hardly any pain, he did not need to take any pain medicine and he happy not to be suffering the pain he had before the operation. It had been successful. He was operated on by n Germany by an Othopaedic Surgeon who specialises in feet only!

Hi
I had neuroma removed 20mm ,plantar position (from below) between 3/4th. It is now 4 months after and i still have stiff sensitive feet. I can not run or walk on toes (like high heels). Docter said i jave to give it time as unfortunetly when cutting below the foot it takes longer to heal.
Is there anyone else that had opp from below. And if yes....how long did it take to walk normal again without stiff sore feet

I had my surgery on 4-18-17.The incision is about 1-1/2" long. I never used crutches because I was never told to. I was given a surgical boot immediately after surgery to go home with The surgery was 20-30 minutes long. I was given anesthesia thru IV. It went very well. I go back on 5-3-17 to remove stitches. Never has to take on pain pill. I was scared and hesitant for nothing! Yay! So far so good.

I have had 3 MN removed from my right fit. Other then numbness everything healed great. Though I am only 2 days post op on the third one. I followed my doctors orders completely, so I got the best results possible. MN do not grow back, as the nerve is severed and removed. New ones can always form in new spots though.

Hi, I am four weeks post MN surgery and am experiencing the same bad feelings you are describing in your post at the 5 week mark. Are you getting better?

Hi Anne. How are you doing now? I had surgery 10 days ago. I had a massive (my doc's word) neuroma between 2nd and 3rd toe and a smaller one between 3rdcand 4th. Plus I had a bone spur in bunion area if if toe that she removed along with cleaning up the joint from arthritis. I am in SO much pain! I've kept my foot elevated 24/7 except to get to the restroom or kitchen for ice. My foot is very bruised all over and it's very swollen. No infection as of 5 days ago. Is my whole summer going to be spent this way? It's worse than before surgery. I'm so scared and anxious about this whole ordeal. I'm interested to hear how you are doing now.
Thanks! Jennifer

I flew to to Atlanta for Neuroma surgery. This DPM cut the nerve on the bottom of foot behind metatarsal head ( non weight bearing area). I had a shoe on in 2 days and must reduce walking for e weeks. There is no ice, elevation and I went to work 4 days later. All in all it is a 3 week recovery. I will have a doctor in Chicago remove the stitches. There was no dr in Chicago does this way. This DPM does about 6 neuroma surgeries a month. Most Foot orthos do about 6 to 10 a year. The top surgery is a 3 month recovery and this DPM is 3 weeks. he has a 100% success rate and no stump neuromas . He was hard to locate. He also does Radio Frequency Ablation for Neuromas.

Hi. I'm in a similar situation as you were a year ago. How long was it before you were able to return to work? Was your surgery done from the top or sole? Mine's being done next week from the underside. I also work and am on my feet 8-10 hours a day
