Well, I had mine on May 14th, 2010. I had a peripheral nerve block for my anesthesia, where they kill the nerves in the foot. I was told the numbness (mine was actual paralysis of my entire right foot) would last for about ten hours and to stay off it two days, keep it elevated and ice on for 15 off for 15. even if I had no pain, I was to take my pain meds on schedule (vicodin) so that when it did wake up, I would have less pain. Well, at 28 hours, I returned to the hospital ER because it was still numb. The nurse asked "Sir, am I to unerstand that your chief complaint is you have NO PAIN? Count yourself lucky as that is painful recovery. Well At my two week check-up, it was still numb, but my doctor told me as soon as the incision healed completely, I could do wear shoes and whatever I wanted to do! It is almost healed now, BUT, it is still numb. I have had an absolutely pain freee recovery. Well, almost. as certain regions of my foot came back, they felt like they were being stabbe with hundreds of red hot needles, or walking on a densely packed bed of pins. I am worried about the numbness and paralysis of my big toe yet, but, I am walking 2 miles, and very very thankful to my Lord for an almost pain free and rapid recovery!

Sorry, I wanted to continue about some of my preperation. The night before the surgery, I rearranged my living room. I put my recliner in the back of the room with my computer on an end table and a refrigerator next to it. I ketp ice packs and water in there along with snacks (my wife had to work 8 days straight, and I would be my own baby sitter) I put my Bible, some good books and projects on the table next to me. The first 4 days, I did not do much as I was too loopy to work, out on pain pills. after I realized my pain was slow in coming, I cut back on my meds, and got to work from my recliner. I do software, so I could work from my chair. I worked on finishing my dissertation and a short story for publication. Everything I needed was within reach. Thats probably the best thing I can tell you is to set up for the long haul while praying for the short trip! I got lucky I think as everyone else says the pain is terrible, and the recovery is slow. I intend to play first base Monday night for my church softball team, 3 weeks and 3 days from the actual surgery. I pray yours goes as easy!

HI,

I had tailors bunionectomy and realigning the joint using a pin.

Yes, I would have it done again if needed on any other bunions that I might get.

This is my second week after surgery. I am very pleased. I have had some pain, but after the first two days, I did nor do I need any pain medication.

Went back to the Dr. Fri. (1 wk. after surgery), D r. said it look great, and maybe the stitches will come out this next Fri. I do wear a shoe with a hard sole so s not to bend my foot because it would put pressure on the toe area.

It has not (after 2 days) has not changed my schedule, but has slowed me down. I go up and down stairs, gone grocery shopping, etc.

So, good luck, with my prayers, and go into the surgery thinking and knowing that all is going to be good and how you will benefit. :D :DCode:

I am only 18 and i had tailors bunionectomy and re-aligning the joint using pins. This is my third week after local anesthesia surgery and i am very happy with the final result. I only took medication for three days after the surgery because the pain was going away. Ten days after surgery i went back to the surgeon, stating it was going well and cut of the ends of my dissolvable stitches. The first two weeks i just sat on the sofa/bed raising my foot on pillows, sometimes with a bag of peas on my foot to control the swelling. I was on crutches for two weeks and a half, my knee sometimes locked when i tried to put pressure on my foot. I had help from my family for the first week, as it came to the second i was struggerling - i was crawling upstairs, hopping with a cup of tea in my hand and bathing was pretty much impossible. At the moment, i am walking but with a slight limp so i dont put pressure on my toes, there is no pain what so ever, no swelling, no scaring and i am itching to start driving.

Anyone who is having tailors bunionectomy, don't worry, it's fine! :)

I had a tailor's bunionectomy with 2 screw fixation 4 weeks ago. I finally got out of my cast and crutches this week. I had no weight bearing for those 4 weeks. Now I'm in a pneumatic walking cast and will be in it for at least 3 more weeks. The pain was the worst on day 3, but since I started walking with the boot I have been having slight shooting pains up my foot when I first start walking. My Dr. said this will go away and is just result of not using my foot for so long. My foot no longer has the deformity and I think I'm on the way to recovery.

I think I might have tailor's bunions one both of my feet there is a slight bump near my pinky toes and I wanted to know if they are bad to have. Even though I am not sure if I do have a tailor's bunion it will still be a relief if I don't have to get a surgery but worst case I guess I'll have to. Please reply to this!!!! :

I had surgery Feb. 22, 2011 not much pain after the surgery only had to take Motrin 800 a few times, After 2 months now is when I am developing swelling and lots of discomfort it is also effecting my back.  My doctor said it normally takes 3 months of being in the surgical shoe and I should start feeling better.  My advise to you have bunions and they are not bothering you, leave them alone........

Hi All,

I had Tailored bunion surgey on February 21, 2011 and here it is almost 5 months and my foot still aches and swells almost every day, don't know if it's a humidity factor or not. My surgery was a simple surgey cutting the bone a bit and filing down. I feel by now I should be doing better. I will give it to 6 months if not okay will be going for another MRI. I thought I did well after surgery very little pain did not need heavy pain medication only Moltrin 800.

Last week I had a tailor's bunion removed and bone scraped to align my little toe. I used pain med the first night, but didn't need any after that. I guess it's different for others. I has a bunion (big toe) removed about 15 years ago and it still looks perfect. Hope this recovery will be as good.

I had Taylor Bunions, two hammer toes and bursa sacks removed from each foot 6-weeks ago.

Surgery: General anesthesia met my desire not to see, feel or hear anything.  The entire surgery took less than 2 hours; good surgeon.

Wore foot surgery boots home and filled pain med prescriptions on the way home.  Stayed on top of the meds to keep ahead of the pain from becoming too much.  Stayed on scheduled pain med regimen for the first 2.5 weeks.

Week-1:

-                     Stayed on meds: pain/discomfort was moderate.

-                     Elevated feet: my wife bought a ‘wedge’ to elevate my feet.  Worked well and used it day and night.

-                     Limited walking: Stay in bed!  Use the ‘little john’ to limit trips to the bathroom.  Faithful family/friends are priceless!

-                     Drink a lot of water: to flush the system, stay hydrated and help keep the weight off.  Light snacks (crackers, nuts, etc to satisfy the appetite).

-                     Sponge baths.

-                     Week-1 Doctor visit.

Week-2:

-                     Same as week-1 overall.

-                     Week-2 Doctor visit removed stitches.

Week-3:

-                     Weaned off the pain meds as the pain/discomfort was low.

-                     Week-3 Dr. visit allowed feet to get wet.  Used a shower chair – lifesaver!

-                     Dr. issued me ‘anti-embolism stockings’ to enhance blood circulation.  Said I could walk more… listen to your body!  Don’t feel you have to meet any level of expectations based on others’ recovery.

-                     Never go barefoot!  Keep using the surgery boots with shoe inserts that provide arch support.

-                     Feet still elevated, limit walking; use the ‘little john’, etc…

Week 4-7:

-                     Continue recovery with minor discomfort and I noticed that my ankles were weak.

-                     Week-6 my swelling seems to have subsided.  Shoe Mill sales person had impressive insight and training in my situation, not to mention he too had Taylor Bunions. Bought a pair of shoes and semi-rigid inserts to support and align my feet (SOLE, Casual Softec).

-                     Anticipate continued improvement albeit gradual; can’t rush it!

I hope this at least helps someone with their foot surgery apprehensions, anxieties and expectations.

i had a bunionette osteotomy done in Dec. It is now around 12 to 13 weeks since and i've had so many issues it's unreal. I will not be going back to get my second one done as I'm scared. I am 31 years old and have dealt with these tailor bunions for years and finally got tired of being in pain all day every day. Well it looks like I will just to have deal with the pains. Anyways my experience with this was horrible. 9 weeks after surgery i developed a bad infection at the incision site. The internal stitches were trying to come up thru my skinapparently weren't dissolving correctly. I had to have the incision reopened and it drained and packed again for a while with heavy antibiotics for 10 days and an antibiotic cream that i used for a few weeks. I still have purplish coloring in my foot by the end of the day. I have puffiness again at the incision site with a slight pain when i try and flex my baby toe. I have ripped my tendon in my foot twice now since I babied my foot for so long. There really is no relief to that and i have to just deal with the painn the arthritic cream that's supposed to help with the pain doesn't work. I'm being told it's completely healed, the bone that is but it doesn't feel healed. I have developed depression because of this as i expected the recovery to be a smooth sail as that is what i was told if i stayed off my foot to which i did for two weeks. i couldn't even wear the surgical boot for weeks as it hurt too much to put my foot down. I don't know if it was the surgery, the doctor, or my body. I have had 3 hernia operations, galbladder removal. i just don't get it. on top of it i've gained close to 10lbs!

I had a bunionectomy about 10 days ago, and for those of you who are into working

out,i do some leg floor work and some chair exercises. When doing chair workout do so

with your bad foot elevated.I do cathe fredrich turbo barre but i do the leg exercises on the floor instead

of the barre is keeping me from gaining weight and you really have to eat heathy.

Try to be creative because it can be done after two weeks and you can do some floor work and chair

workouts it will keep you sane. Goodluck
