recovery bunionectomy tailors bunion

Have to tell you all, it has been exactly 4 months and I am still having problems :(  I had a plate and 6 pins put in.  They now may have to go in and remove them because it hurts when I walk.  This whole thing has turned into a nightmare for me.  I am still in pain when I walk, though I am getting around pretty good, and I STILL cannot get my foot in a shoe.   I have been going to physical therapy the whole time too, which I recommend highly.  If it weren't for them, I probably wouldn't have improved as much as I have.  Not to even talk about the problems it has caused with my severe pain in my hips from the imbalance. 

 

I really wish he had warned me more about the recovery.  He said 3-6 weeks; yeah right.  Under normal circumstances, from what I have heard, is more like 2 months. 

I had a tailors bunionectomy and a repair of a failed great toe bunionectomy yesterday! My pain is a burning pain on the bottom of the foot. Ouch!
I'm in a walking CAM boot that was applied in the OR.

They did a mini tightrope repair of the great toe but not sure what they did with the tailors bunionectomy. I think it was an osteotomy. I was pretty groggy after surgery and don't much remember what the doc said.

You are tough...and I'm still thinking of delaying...Look at all that's involved! I wish I didn't have this condition and you surely know why! As for the showering; I was able to get a pull-on plastic "boot " that goes all the way onto the thigh, keeping water out with a flexible barrier "flap" ...Get it at a surgical supply place, as it's well worth it! Think it was under $30...

What are you? BIONIC? That was a super painful surgery and recovery for me!!!...BUT completely successful SO, if it's that bad again...yes, I would do it...

Yes. This is more the reality as I recall from over a decade ago! Horrible. I don't want to do the other foot for that reason! BUT Completely successful.....eventually...it takes AWHILE! I am waiting until I feel I have no alternative, which was how I felt in 1999, before I fix this one. It DOES get better and, if it's unavoidable (24/7 misery and pain; which the bunion WILL get to), there's no choice, so that's that...

How are you today? Was it worth it? I'm schedule for march 13th

Ok, here's the low down- had both the big/little toes done on ONE foot. My surgeon said you would never do both feet at once since you need to have a good foot to perform all your activities. Elevate/ice as much as you can- you can not really overdue this & it relieves so much of the pain which is caused by the swelling inside AND outside the surgical site. Take tylenol or similar as you need to flex your toes to spped healing by circulating bloodflow. The best advice is follow your doctors advice and phone them if you have questions. Listen to your foot!! If it starts to swell or throb you are on it too much!!Take the time to allow proper healing & you will have a happy ending. Ask for help w/household tasks &meals. Place things you will need around the area you will be resting. Exhale- it will all be there when you are all better!!!

Hi well I'm on day 4 after my Taylor's bunion with screws I had no pain at all the first 24 hours then shorting pain that lasted about half a day down the side were the bunion was I took pain killers twice then no pain since ,but bored sitting about with leg up tomorrow I'll try to walk on my heel ,hope this helps

Well I'm week 2 after surgery I have not had one pain killer it's just the boredom of sitting about with the foot up , but hubby got me a mobility scooter so I can get out to see friends so I'm not isolated hope this helps

Its rather silly having both feet done at the same time because you can't put pressure on your feet for 4-6 weeks meanung you will be in a wheel chair. It will be hard showerinf & going to the loo. I hope your house I s sungle storey. Best of luck! One at a time would have been a wise decision.

Hi I had my my surgery 17 days ago and as of yet there is honestly wth the exception of tenderness of the surgery site no pain at all, the scar area is tender due to the boot rubbing it, My ? is how long do I need this dern boot, like I said the only pain from day 1 rubbing of the boot.

Hello I had a tailors bunion removed 3days ago and dang does it hurt not to sound pessimistic but WOW maybe it's to early to tell like you said I will rest and get plenty of rest feel better.

Hi, I had tailors bunion surgery on my right foot 7 days ago. My surgeon used the scarf rotational osteotomy technique, I was in and out of the surgical site within 5hrs.. Pain was bearable but I took my painkiller as instructed for the first 2 days and didn’t feel much. Post 7 days I am feeling some discomfort but still no weight bearing and keeping my foot elevated as much as possible. The biggest problem for me is managing my time as i’m going stir crazy jumping from room to room. My advice to all is do not prolong the surgery because it will only get worse over time and your foot will start to splay. Good luck!

Do not do both at the same time. You will be completely immobile and it will be misrerable. Going on 2 weeks of mine
