Stay off your foot. Take some painkillers. Watch Netflix.
Had a rod removed from my second bunion surgery today. from
my second toe. as well. It's been 4 weeks. Your foot will work again,
you just have to be patient, and do the foot stretching and pulling your
toes to keep them limber. 3 to 4 weeks. You wont regret it.

I definitely agree with the stretching and pulling on your toes. My doctor didn't suggest it or recommend physio so I'm not able to move my big toe like I did before. Massage the area as well to try and avoid scar tissue from building up.
I was told to expect up to 18 months of swelling and that's exactly what I got. You won't bounce back right away - your feet take a real beating over their lifetime so don't rush the healing process or you will just make it worse for the long term.
Keep your foot elevated as much as possible. Ice packs behind your knee help with pain and swelling. Follow the doctors orders.

I agree! I'm 11 weeks post-op and my foot is still numb and fluctuates between 3 and 4 inches bigger than my good foot. Nothing seems to help the swelling!

Totally relating to your post, had surgery 1 week ago today. The pain was really bad after the surgery and it's better now but the cast feels so tight and is making me miserable. How are you feeling now ?

I had mine done 4 weeks ago. The tight cast has been one of the most miserable things for me. A week ago, the doc sawed the cast to loosen, and then added more cast wrapping! This did not really relieve anything for me, since the cast now weighs more, and is much heavier and seems to be pressing harder against my ankle and foot than it was before.
I hit my foot twice recently, and now I am trying to decide if I need to see the doc again (I just went for X-rays a few days ago right before I fell on my foot the second time, and my next scheduled appointment is 2 weeks away). I have more pain since I hit my foot; however, every post I have found from others who did this, no one ever did any damage.

I had my bunion surgery 3 years ago and i get a mild sharp pain on my surgery spot when the weather is humid

I'm 25 and was having pain in my feet and I'm active love to hike, jog, etc..,so I opted for surgery. I had bunion removal surgery in my left foot about 2 weeks ago. The pain and swelling has actually almost completely gone away, except for this one strange pulling pain when I move my foot a certain way. It feels as if my big toe is being pulled out of its socket. Is this normal, or could the pin have slipped out of place?

I had the right foot done. Went back to work after being out 8 days. Was on crutches for 5 weeks, then one crutch for a week, then after 7 in a sneaker. Make sure you ice and elevate it as much as possible. I slacked a little one weekend and boy was I hurting. I learned my lesson. Good luck

Im 63 and I had the bunion surgery and I did not take any pain pills they were too strong! I only used ice. The Ice took the pain away I kept my food elevated like the doc said. I was wearing a regular boot about 4 weeks after the surgery. It felt better to wear something close around my foot than something loose. I slept at night with the surgical boot for two weeks. I have pins in my toe. I was back to work two weeks after surgery. It was all worth it! I want the other foot done too.

Great advice. I had my first real shower after 10 days post op. I bought a special bag so dressing would not get wet. It was soo painful standing on one leg that long. I ordered a shower stool and foot rest. Will wait till I get that before I attempt to wash my hair. Hope your recovery is quick and not painful.
