If your only issue now is arthritis, why not have your doctor give you a cortisone shot. If that works there is no need/reason to have surgery. If your arthritis is severe enough it can impact your walking greatly. I know a woman who was getting the cortisone injections and let her doctor talk her into having surgery. She didn't properly vet this doctor, the doc had never done this type of surgery before and now she is about to have her second surgery to correct the problems the original problem created and she didn't even have a bunion. I would strongly caution you to give this some serious thought. No matter how good your doctor is and I am assuming he/she is excellent I would think even for server arthritis if the shots are working they would advise you to stick with that.

I had my surgery 7 months ago and I’ll find out tomorrow if my malunion has healed more since using the ultrasound bone stimulator for 9 weeks...if not, surgery it is! I’m really nervous about what he’s going to tell me tomorrow. Regardless, I feel like surgery is necessary because I’m still unable to walk without pain and I broke a screw a few months ago. As long as everything goes well the second time around, it’ll be worth it! Airman not wanting to leave the Air Force yet, but this foot might send me to Medical Retirement or separation. :(

I am 5 weeks post Lapidus Bunionectomy. I also had a smaller bunion on by my pinkie toe removed. I’m supposed to get a weight bearing boot next week. I still have a lot of pain and tightness near bunion spot. It’s been hard being the only adult in the house with a 12 year old. I’m hoping it’s all worth it. I still need to do my other foot.

I wondered if you had been back to your doctor and if yes-what the doctor said. Like you, I had surgery on my left foot in July and by September my toes had started turning left. My 2nd toe had been shortened and has a screw in it to keep it straight. My 3rd toe has come out of the socket and is now a "Floater" toe. I am not happy with my foot. My 2nd toe was not put back in socket. I feel it has forced my 3rd toe to be out of socket. They cut my foot from under the toes clear to 1 1/2 inch above the toe.
I am currently taping my toes with KT tape.
