I have had 2 bouts with this very thing on my lips. My doctor believes that it is a form of cheilitis. She also believes that with this I have had the angular cheilitis. This condition is caused by yeast. It took 2 treatments of taking fluconazole. 1 treatment per week. So far, so good. Remember to throw out all lip products that have come into direct contact with your lips as it can occur again if you use them.

I have a similar issue. The dermatologist I just saw in NYC said it could be perleche, or a kind of cheilitis caused by yeast growth. I have facial hair and he said that could have had an effect.
I have tiny white spots ( fordyce spots?) on my lips in conjunction with a red, spreading, burning/tingling irritation that discolors the skin on the border of my lips. Often this results in acne-like breakouts along the lip line which is quite distressing.
I have now been prescribed sulfa-wash, doxycycline, and now nystatin/triamcinolone ointment.
I got tested for std's, hiv, herpes...all tests negative.
The sulfa wash seems to have helped the breakouts, but the redness and burning is still there. I feel for anyone with these conditions- it has really gotten me down.

Hi
Ive had this issue for the past 2 years
Nothing works 100%
Ive seen doctors had blood tests wasted $1000s with no asnwers

Tried every cream thats posted below
None will work

However i have found out what works the fastest but its painful
You will need

Hydrogen peroxide
Rubbing alcohol
Alum

When your lips are moist and feel like they are sweating
Take hydrogen perixodie and soak your lips until you can pull the dead yellow crusty stuff right off with a q tip
Now the pain comes....
Grab a bottle of rubbing alcohol with the cap of the rubbing alcohol fill it and dunk your lips in top and bottom
It will burn and burn but its killing any bacteria thats on your lips
Then ....
Ive taken this product found at any grocery store for $4 in the cooking and baking isle called ALUM
Apply it onto your lips leave it for 2min
Wash it off and repeat
With in 2 days your lips will be healed just keep putting vaseline on as needed

My lip has swollen up the past few months. Well actually since after Valentine's Day 2015.  Seems like it's been this way since I let my guard down and kissed a guy with extreme cigarette mouth. Yuk.  I noticed that the swelling came in my lower left lip a day later and seems to come every month lasting less than 6 hours.  During the summer, I went a few months without an outbreaks.  When I feel my lip tingling and itching, I usually use Allegra Allergy/Benadryl and it usually go away within an hour.  I sometimes wonder if it's the MAC lipstick that I use or cheap matte lipstick that I find cute in color.  I don't always wipe away my lipstick at night and I sometimes add more on ontop of the previous coat....

What i find odd is that it happened on my upper right lip last Monday night, I took Allegra and nothing worked. I then prayed to God/High Power and it went away.   Just last night it came back in my left lower lip.  I took Allegra Allergy and it's still there.  I looked closely in the mirror and notice three small areas seeping clear fluid. I've never noticed this in the past.  I'm visiting my doctor next week.

Also, it seems as if I have that same swollen feeling in my feet at times.  I can feel it when I'm walking. Feels like a bubble in my foot but it will go away.  This is very bothersome.  I'm usually a healthy person that eat right and am practicing celibacy.  I had no STI infections during my last annual visit in November.  I do however have a yellowish in color appearance toe nail in which my nail tech noticed and gave me some topical Thymolize Solution to treat.

I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!  This is tiresome.

ok so OBVIOUSLY I'm not alone here with this problem, I have read MANY MANY MANY detailed problem descriptions but I'm not finding many remedies and there is pages of comments.
I want to state a few things, I have herpes (cold sores) this is NOT it however VERY similar and often mistaken, and to top it off you can get BOTH Herpes 1 and 2 on your mouth and they both come out slightly different.
If you are unsure if you have the herpes simplex virus you can go and get a simple BLOOD test to tell you for sure, I suggest this.
So I RARELY to NEVER get a herpes outbreak (I'm more of a carrier) but I went to the dentist for a 6 month cleaning and some crown work in the same day and RIGHT after is when I got my first outbreak of whatever this is, I was in two different rooms and when they transferred me into the 2nd room, I swear they already had a set of tools there from the other patient and that may be how I got this, needless to say I axed that Dentist and found a new one.
Moving on, I was struggling with this for over a month with the understanding that it was dental induced herpes and then I gave in (as a guy I do not go to the Dr often) and went to the dermatologist, because I wanted them to take a culture and find out exactly what the hell was happening to me.
RESULTS came back as a Impetigo (Staph infection) and he gave me Mupirocin 2% which helped to heal it quite fast.
FAST FORWARD TO TODAY: I have been sick for two weeks and finally gave in and went to get some antibiotics, after the first 24 hours of taking antibiotics guess what is back :(

ANOTHER NOTE: I just spoke with my mother about my situation and she CAN NOT take antibiotics because it immediately gives her oral thrush...something to check when I go to the Dr.

Also it was explained to me that these type of lip problems can either be viral OR Fungal so if you are trying to treat it with an anti-fungal and it is a bacterial it obviously is not going to work and vice versa.

I'll update after my DR apt but best advice is to go to derm dr. asap and get a culture to see ecactly what you are dealing with.

If anyone has any good answers for me PLEASE PLEASE respond to my post so I can start attacking my most recent problem, I'm only a couple days into it but if it is anything like the last time I don't want this c**p for a month :(

OH ONE more thing, my Derm. Dr said to just use 100% pure petroleum Jelly as opposed to ANYTHING else, most products are derived from this anyway...just forwarding on what he says...and when I use it, it makes it feel way better, and there is no perfumes, dyes any of that stuff that could cause adverse effects.

get a culture to be sure and a blood test to see if you have the herpes virus
