I have this problem too, I'm concerned it is related to Herpes. I have had two partners who were... Questionable. I'm awaiting testing for herpes and a full std panel. My lips itch strongly and burn occasionally they are red around the entire outside of my lips with no blisters. One side of my Cupid's bow is losing color and pigmentation. I do have very small white bumps on my lips that are almost not visible. I'm thinking this is std, herpes virus, or allergy related. Herpecin L Chapstick subdues some of the itch and redness but comes back when I stop using it. Any word about what this could be would be amazing. Thank you! Stay strong all!

I've also been experiencing similar symptoms here for the past month. It started one day when I felt as if I was getting hives on my lips. I put some Benadryl cream on and nothing ever came to the surface. A few days later my lips started burning and became slightly swollen and they've been this way ever since. I noticed that the condition seems to go in cycles where they will be red, swollen, and burning for a few days and then they will shrink, dry up, and leave dead skin behind. I tried Vaseline and aquaphor which made them worse. I also stopped using carmex and am using an all natural lip balm called Lypsyl. This hasn't done anything to help either.

I saw my general physician who put me on a low dose of prednisone and 2.5 % hydrocortisone - this did nothing to alleviate my symptoms so he sent me to a dermatologist. I was put on a heavier dose of prednisone and clobetasol ointment which also did nothing to improve my condition. Next week I'm going in for patch testing which will hopefully give me some answers here.

I will also add that I have been taking B-complex vitamins, iron, and drinking plenty of water and that also has not cleared anything up. Additionally, I take a zyrtec every day and my doctor also added tagamet to my regimen (an H2 blocker) which again, has had zero effect on me.

I hope this is helpful to some of you out there. This reaction is so painful and irritating, and it's all the more crazy making when you don't know what's causing it.

I have had similar symptoms. I now use for lip balm, a mix of half coconut oil, half cocoa butter, and a generous squirter of A and D ointment mixed in. That help with moisture and hydration. When it flares, I use hydrocortisone, and that usually knocks it out.

I have the EXACT same problems as you, glad to know there's someone else out there. I honestly thought I might just be allergic to something, but maybe it's more serious, and no white spots, I really want to get rid of it ! It's painful and emberessing

I experienced allergic reaction in the form of angioedema (swelling) in my lips from Lisonopril blood pressure medicine after having taken this ACE inhibitor for 10 years. Prednisone steroid got the lip swelling to go down but have had to keep taking it for a month otherwise the tingling on the outer edges of my lips, slight numbness, and small blisters come back. I read online ACE inhibitors block the breakdown of bradykinin in your system and the lip swelling is a result of the buildup. I'm trying Aloe Vera tablets and Lysine to get it out of my system. There are side effects of taking prednisone too long. Going back to allergist to discuss options.

I've had these same symptoms for a month! I'm looking for answers, although I do feel like it's HSV1 related.

I have dealt with this on and off for 20 years. Best thing is Vitamin B with Riboflavin. Many B vitamins don’t contain Riboflavin so check the label.

I have it too.. and use Zilactin which forms a coating before you eat to protect them. The Dr. called me in an RX for a dental paste ( gritty, but makes a gel coating) this seems to help but than after a day or 2 it comes right back. I wear a lower dental mouth guard and attribute it to that even though I thoroughly clean it every day. Going to stop wearing and and keep the dental paste on and hope for healing ! Swollen, red, sore, throbbing.. for months now !
