Hello! I’m 38 and I had my ileostomy done 7 years ago for I was diagnosed with Chrone’s disease. Now I want reversal of ileostomy. I hate looking at this bag on my stomach and really want my ileostomy removed for the doc said I have enough of intestine to give it a go. So is there anyone with ileostomy reversal experience for I’d like to hear some advice. Thx.
Hi! I got my ileostomy removed and never regret it. I lived with ileostomy for 10 years almost and during all this time I was having a hard thought of how it could be if I decide to have reversal of ileostomy. I also had my family support though they new I suffered so much having those abdominal pain caused by Chron’s disease but they new how much I’d be happy if I had ileostomy reversed. And my doc said that I have enough of my colon left to make reversal of ileostomy. So I did it and it’s been a year and a half now since I got reconnected. Of course this was a tough decision for the doc has warned my of possible causes of ileostomy reversal such as reappearances of Chron’s disease which is something I’m very well aware of so in order to reduce the risk of getting Chron’s back I undergo treatment with Remicade infusions. Well it’s not a pleasant experience but it’s better than carrying the bag around. And what’s the most important here I can do anything, I mean anything there’re no more restrictions for me in sense that I don’t have to get back home now just to change my bag. I fell free now and I feel great for I still haven’t felt no abdominal pain though I’m pretty sure it will get back one day but in the meantime I want to have a real life.
How long does it take for the "J" Pouch to stretch to capacity and what are the best expectations for the number of times I'll have to find a bathroom after an ileostomy reversal

I had prostate cancer (which I still have, but can live with it for many years according to 3 doctors). I had to have my prostate removed and developed C-dif infection and a fistula and needed an ileostomy to bypass my upper and lower colon to heal the fistula and stop the infection. I had the ileostomy for over 15 months. It was just reversed, several problems after the reversal and a 3-5 day estimated stay in the hospital lasted 15 days. Diet is very important so follow your colo rectal surgeons advice. Best wishes and I hope you can have the reversal done. Bob
I had my reversal done last November 2011. There was a GI doctor at the hospital that recommended that I don't get the reversal because of bowel problems post ileostomy reversal. He was right. It has been 8 months and I am still going to the bathroom constantly after I eat and also wake up throughout the night so that I never get a good night's rest. I sometimes think about getting my bag put back on. I could go out to eat and never had to worry about anything. Now, I don't go anywhere except work. If I do go to a function, I don't eat anything until I get back to my home. Sometimes it can be 8 hours before I eat anything which probably isn't good for me either. I am miserable 24/7. Is there any suggestions of what I can do?
Hi, I had my illestomy surgery at CC done by Dr. Luca Stocchi, who did your surgery. My colon stopped working and there was no reason. He did another MRI defocraphy and showed the bottom of my colon is still not working and he won't; do the reversal. I am just praying it starts to work again. Its been a year and half since I had it done. Before that for a year I was very sick. I am trying biofeedback now. Thanks.
THE VERY BEST OF LUCK...HOPE ALL GOES WELL...GOD BLESS!!
HI I had the same issues as you and Dr Stocci did my ilistomy. Did the biofeedback work. Keep
