I'm a 43 year old female, 5'6", 220 lbs, relatively active (walking, elliptical, weight lifting), smoker (less than 10 cigarettes per day and on the road to quitting very soon). About a year ago, I went to my primary care physician complaining of burning back and abdominal pain in my right side, upper quadrant area. My doctor told me it was Shingles-No Rash and sent me off with an anti-viral medication that did nothing. I went back to her, and she then suggested I meet with my gastroenterologist. The gastro doc thought the symptoms sounded like gallstones and suggested I have an ultra sound, HIDA scan and consult with a surgeon. The ultra sound game back: no stones. I cannot recallt he results of the HIDA scan, but it was "normal". However, during the procedure I experienced pretty severe pain. My gastro doc then ordered a colonoscopy. where he found a couple of small polyps--both biopsied and came back benign, non-cancerous.

I am still experiencing the pain as described above, now having some sharper RUQ abdominal pain from time to time. It does not seem to coincide with any partcular food I eat (greasy or otherwise). I'm also finding that I am quite bloated by the end of the day, and normally the pain is worse at the end of the day (between 6 and 8pm). My stress level at work is HUGE. The pain hasn't stopped me from my normal activities (work, exercise, shopping, etc.), but it is becoming troublesome.

I have an appt. with my gastro doc on January 2, 2007. He said that if the colonoscopy came up inconclusive, he would schedule a CAT scan. I called today to see if I could get scheduled for the CAT scan and maybe even have it done before I see him in a couple of weeks.

Anyone have similar symptoms? Any idea what the heck is going on?

Hi, have they figured out whats wrong? Are you feeling better?

I have similar pain, it hurts on my right side, just below my ribs and radiates to the front under my right breast. I have the worst pain in the morning and evening and am also becoming quite bloated and have a lot of gas. It's not my gallbladder, I had that removed a year ago. I also had my entire large intestine removed. What really worries me is that I now have no appetite and have lots 5 lbs in th past 2 weeks.

I have had 5 major abdominal surgeries, mostly for scar tissue.. this last surgery was 2 months ago and, while they removed the scar tissue, the pain has returned and is just as bad. I am stuck living off painkillers and sitting on a heating pad all day.

I don;t have a UTI but I have had difficulty urinating for several months now. I had attributed this too my screwy bowels and sitting down a lot but now I think I may have a kidney problem. My urine is also very yellow, which isn't normal for me. I also have severe acid reflux and I may have an ulcer but thats not the source of my pain, I've had ulcers before.
I had a ct scan to check for stones. It read out normal results but it was a regular scan without contrast or dye so I don't trust it.

I go to have an upper endoscopy done in a few days and I will ask for an ERCP to check my bile ducts and some testing to check my kidneys. I hope your feeling better but if not, please send a message, maybe we can figure this out together since it sounds like we might have the same thing.
