Thank you for your great response. Although, I wish I heard this 2.5 years ago to calm my nerves during the birth. I have since given birth to my bambino in which i was given an epidural because my rods didnt pass L2 or L4 (or the spot that they insert the epidural). I needed an additional local anesthetic because it didnt numb me entirely. All-in-all I gave birth to a healthy baby.

I had surgery for scoliosis when I was 13. I had a 70 degree curve in my spine. They fused rods on both sides. I had my son 10 months ago naturally. My dr said an epidural probably wouldn't be possible just by looking at my scar. But I had a great birth! No complications other than back labor. It is very painful but so worth it once he/she gets here! I don't regret it one bit!

My younger sister also got scoliosis just as severe as I did, she didn't notice this until she was 16 years old, so I'd recommend you kept an eye on her back especially whilst she is growing.

I am small boned anyway and I know I wouldn't be able to manage without strong drugs to help with the pain of labour, I also had spinal surgery for a 95 degree curve so pretty much my entire spine was fused. Do you think this means I will not be able to have an epidural, or maybe a spinal. I already know I would prefer a C-section but I want to be able to be awake during the birth. How was the natural birth for you?

I had a fusion L4-S1 and gave birth naturally last year to a bay no 3. I was offered an epidural but refused as I didn't want them messing around near my metal work as I still have a lot of back problems. If the anaesthetist can see the MRI of your back first they can assess if hey can give you an epidural. If you want a natural birth their is a drug called remifentanil you can be offered for pain relief. If I had had a c section I would have had a general. I've written a blog post about pain relief in labour and giving birth after fusion.

You should see a different doctor. I'm sorry you were told that.

How many of your vertebrae are fused? I had surgery when I was 16, I’m 21 now and I’m 7 weeks pregnant and concerned about giving birth bc my back doesn’t bend. I have 17 out of the 24 vertebrae fused.

I would like some information about deformation of palm and fingers at birth, since my daughter has the same problem. She had no place for growth in my womb due to fibroid.

My daughter is 17 (18 this month). She is currently pregnant with scoliosis at 50%. Would like to know if she can carry this baby full term or will there be complications during pregnancy?
