I am a woman in her mid fifties and this unpleasant fishy odour syndrome occurs with me too, and it has only started happening in the last two years. I do not have BV, and this odour is most definitely linked to eating fish, the worst offender in my case is Cod. After two days the smell goes away, but whilst it is present no amount of washing will get rid of it. I have read on another website, that some people have found relief from the problem by drinking water with lemon juice in it before, during and after the meal. Also place lemon on the food. Some other women have had success with taking Cranberry supplements or drinking pure cranberry juice. I will try the lemon next time I consume fish...and maybe historically this is one of the reasons why fish came to be served with lemon. Good luck everyone, and to those people who blithely state that it's just BV, then you clearly have never been unlucky enough to experience this problem as the symptoms are not like BV at all.

That is not correct at all. I know for a fact that it is harmless. I learned about this when I was 28 I am 51 now. I went to my doctor because of the fishy odor after consuming lobster, shrimp and crab. It can take about 3 days to dissipate. I currently smell like the ocean right now after going crabbing in Puget Sound for the last couple weekend. It is a harmless reaction and really a sensitivity issue the only cure is to never eat shellfish again! I'd rather smell like the ocean than quit!

Please please please DONOT TAKE ANTIBIOTICS to address vaginal order due to eating fish. I did much research and came to one conclusion, fish throws of your normal balance(bacterial) and if you wash yourself with feminine ph wash believe me it goes away by bringing back the balance. This happens to me all the time when I eat fish. What I did notice was that when I was in Belize and Jamacia where the fish is caught and served fresh it doesn't happen. So therefore when fish is not freshly caught it's guaranteed to happen.

This is completely true and normal. It isn’t an infection as the comments above said. Seafood can cause your vagina to smell differently but there can be an underlying health issue that is caused from your stomach not being able to break down the seafoods itself!! Research it :)!!

This is the case for me as well. Only when I eat seafood, certain types of fish and shrimp in particular. And it lasts a couple of days and then clears.

Thanks for the tip! Ate crab for the first time in years and awakened in that night sweating and with GI issues. My sweat smelled like crab! It was awful...lasted for days...made my clothes smell the same. UGH..wanted to hide. Thanks for the tip about the lemon juice and cranberry juice. Nice to know I was not alone in this reaction

Anything you eat can cause any entry and exit way in your body to smell. It is normal!!!!!!!!!!! That when u pee or poop after eating something for u to smell that way. It doesn’t always mean you have an infection. It’s true when they say u are what u eat.

This is TRUE I noticed around 15yrs old! I just ate shrimp last night woke up smelling sooooo fishy ! It feels good to know I’m not the only one. I don’t feel embarrassed because it’s not really me .. it’s the seafood. Same thing with onions.. the make my vag smell just like onions the next day .. the body works in many ways.. I kinda feel like EVERYONE goes through this and don’t admit it or don’t smell themselves afterwards .. and yes men can have a fishy smell after seafood too .. don’t feel bad .. it’s to the point that I come to different chats like these to see who else can agree even though at this point I know that it’s the seafood lol .. just interesting to see others go through this ! Ahhhh

Omg I live in MD, too, and basically live on seafood and I'm dying. I'm having the same symptoms as you and now I'm thinking it may be seafood. Fml because I love it so much.
