Has anyone ever heard that eating a lot of seafood can cause a woman to have an odor of seafood. I ate an AMPLE amount of seafood over the weekend. Friday shrimp fried rice TWICE, Saturday had a Luau and ate Shrimp kabobs, regular shrimp and shrimp jambalyia. My boyfriend and I, whom have been together for years had sex and there was an odor of seafood :$ i was totally embarrassed and made him stop. I heard that this can and wondered if anyone else has? ?

I think that generally people always are running away from one thing - from the problem. You are doing this as well. Why? Because you have probably googled this vaginal odor and you find the problem that is the last dangerous - food. It is true that several foods, such coffee, onions, garlic, strong spaces can change your vaginal odor, but I don't believe that the fish is one of those. So, according to everything that you have written there,  I think that you have problems with your health and that you should visit your gynecologist. The fishy odor is a sign of the infection or bacteria.

Have you noticed the odor present at any other time, like when you haven't had seafood?

I'm not sure about seafood causing vaginal odor, but when mine had a "fish-like" odor, it turned out to be a minor bacterial infection that was easily treated with a round of antibotics. Before I got treated, the odor was there constantly, and it was noticeable at all times.

I'm not saying you have the same thing! I truly have no idea if food will effect the smell. If it's only there when you've eaten seafood, I guess it could be possible? But if you've noticed it there more often than that, I would get it checked out.

I experienced the same thing. It is bacterial vaginiosis- I had a 7 day supply of antibotics and it went away. I had the HUGE prawn shrimp and smelled something foul the next day... I ate a lot of yogurt and its slowly getting back to normal, but yes seafood can cause vaginal mishaps. We have good bacteria and bad bacteria and sometimes based on what we eat- the bad can multiply and affect us in a way that we smell it. I LOVE seafood, but may have to cut back, because that makes me feel gross!!!

Good Luck!!!

I too suffer from the love of shellfish that is causing fishy odor & itching often leading to yeast infections. I took notice in 2014 and chose to accept it because of the passion for Shellfish particularly Wild caught crabs & Shrimp. Farm raised therefore has nothing to do with my experience. I've cut shellfish back to special occasions only in this 2016 year. I had my favorite seafood dish at Ruth's Chris for Thanksgiving and arose the next morning smelling like crabs that sat in the trash for days. It was awful. Day 2, itching, Day 3 cottage cheese discharge, Day 4 Vaginal Yeast infection diagnosis before mentioning to the DR. that I believed seafood was the cause. I'm cured as of today, but have realized that the real Sin is eating something that I love when my body is telling me STOP, NO & DON'T. As much as I love living in Maryland and enjoying Fresh Blue Crabs, YUMMY, I MUST say goodbye.

It's sad some women will automatically label the odor as a STD. Im a lesbian with recent STD panel showing negative and I noticed that eating "fresh" seafood can cause an odor. I can even smell a hint of the old-bay used on the seafood. Crablegs, lobster, and fishy fish all do the same thing. Asparagus, curry, onions, and garlic can also come through your pores. You are what you eat. Don't feel bad it's normal for tons of women.

Fish can cause your body’s ph levels to become out of wack which can cause seafood orders down there. I know I deal with it every time I eat tilapia or any shell fish. I infact asked my dr about it and yes it can cause the balance to be out of wack. It’s made it to where I won’t eat seafood or fish for a while, then I’ll eat some and deal with the odor for another week. I tested it out also with taking that fish oil supplements and sure enough Odor galore.
