I just want everyone to know that the oral contraceptive, Seasonale, has a increased amount of Progestin, a hormone that is known to cause EXTREME constipation in some (but not all) people.

After being on Seasonal for 2 months, I noticed a change (literally) overnight: gross mucus discharge and severe bloating. I initially thought they had to do with my IBS, but after a couple days of suffering (and I mean having to sprint to the restroom about 10 times a day) I began to panic, and even became severly depressed not knowing what was going on.
After months of confusion and panic I suddenly realized that I had been so focused on the large amounts of mucus passing throughh me that I hadn't even noticed that I hadn't had an actual bowel movement in ages.
I was constipated. Severly constipated.

I stopped taking Seasonale 4 weeks ago (switched back to my normal Ortho-Tri-Cyclen) and things are already improving back to normal.

I have read more than one post on this website where women who were panicking and were going to drastic measures such as getting their colon's removed!

Everyone on Seasonale should know about this so that future sufferers do not have to deal with this intense agony of not knowing what is going on in our bodies!

Shame on Seasonale for not listing this as a potential side-effect!

Hope this helps.

Thank you for posting this. I have IBS-D (CONSTANT loose stools and diarrhea) and have been considering going on BC to make my periods less painful. Sounds like Seasonale is a good choice for me if it is constipating. Nothing stops me going for more than a day or so, even Imodium, but if Seasonale could have some effect in that direction, that would be fantastic.
