I am worried son seeking a good Rhyzotomy Advice. My mother has been suffering from severe back pain. It all started several months ago when she fell and injured herself. Several therapies and various medications did not give her pain relief, so doctor suggested Rhyzotomy. I do not know one thing about that type of operation and I would really like to know what is she getting herself into.
It must be some really strong pain, since rhyzotomy became an option. It is a procedure commonly used for spasticity in cerebral palsy when less invasive procedures did not have any effect. Damaged nerves are cut and thus the muscle spasms and pain is subdued, if not totally eliminated. There are several types of rhizotomy: Selective and Percutaneous (Retrogasserian and Lumbar). |After the thorough examination doctors will decide on which type of operation will be executed. As for prognosis there is statistically 59% possibility of complete pain removal.

Hello,
I do not know if your mother has had the procedure done as of yet.
I will tell you I have been having these rhiziotomy's for a few years now.
They are a very pain procedure espicailly if it is her neck but you had said it was her
back. I get them done to my neck the rt side then 2 weeks later or so the left side.
I will be honest it does not take my pain away completely but it lessens it quite a bit.
My pain levels sit at 9-10++ from about 2 1/2 months until I get it again then they go down to
about 4 or 5 level and can decrease my opiodes and other meds as well. Then as time
between them goes the nerves grow back and the cycle starts again. The nerves can grow back
fast or slow or they can never grow back again. Some people report having no pain after this
but for me it lessens the pain and because I am a mother of 3 young children 4 years and two 7 year
olds (twins) so I think it is worth it to be able to spend some time rather than none.
Good luck to your MOM and to you
