I have got scoliosis, was diagnosed at age 11 and wore a milwauke brace for a short time, although it was meant to be for a period of 4 years whilst growing. I have never really had any issues with my back since moving to the tropics away from the cold weather.

I am now 43 and have been working in a call centre using a computer and headset for the past year.

We recently moved work stations and I noticed that the mouse cord seemed as though I had to reach further to get to but was also sitting in a completely different direction to what I was used to. I had to reach much further for the mouse over the week and feltl as though I have ripped something.  After a week at this desk I was having severe back pain, like a burning/tearing sensation between my R shoulder blade and my spine.

I saw my dr who took loads of bloodtests, an xray, ultrasound, referred me to a physio. The physio says she can feel a sac of fluid in that spot and when she touches it, it feels like a massive knot, is extremely sensitive.

I cannot sit for more than 3 minutes at a time now and often have pins and needles all down my arm, I wake up with my fingers feeling dead. I can also no longer drive as holding my R arm to the steering wheel is excrutiating, also being a passenger in a car, the vibration seems to aggravate it immensely.

The physio said that there is only 1 muscle working on that R shoulderblade and therefore diagnosed me with having torn the muscle off my shoulder blade from reaching for the mouse. I have been in extreme pain and the ultrasound taken later shows no torn muscle, so now feel like a bit of a twat for saying thats what was wrong.

I have been attending physio where she straps my back with tape and am on some very strong pain killers. I have been off work now for 6 weeks and am going down the workcover track. It has only started since moving to this new workstation in which I am facing in a different direction and had to really reach out for the mouse, which after the week of being there discovered the cord to be caught up behind the monitor with all the other cords.

I feel both stupid for not seeing this before hand and for not bringing it to the workplaces attention. Hoping I have a leg to stand on for work cover and hoping its not going to be perceived as a pre existing condition.

I am literally experiencing this pain right now hence why I read this post. Iv had it for about 4 years it started when I used to wear my school bag in one shoulder. Iv not long finished a 5 day stint at work and my shoulder is burning and stinging sooo bad. Rubbing it makes it stop whilst rubbing but once I stop, it just feels the same. Mine hurts when iv been working long hours and I'm on my feet more. It even just sitting in the computer chair for a couple of hours. Iv never gone to the doctor for it but I feel as if its times to go. Has anyone who experienced the exact same pain had any good results from the doctor or should I just live with this excruciating pain for the rest of my life? Also iv tried anti inflammatory and deep heat rubs but obviously nothing has worked. Please help! :(

I have similar issues. Been on computer and typewriter over fifty years. Burning pins and needles in shoulder blades and cramps in hands and stinging in elbow. Also hold head too far forward as a lifetime habit.

Omgosh you just described the same pain I've been in for 7 yrs. Doctors have done exact same treatments in same order. Still nothing, and it keeps getting worse. Waiting for answers myself, cause doctors act like I'm faking, but some days its unbearable.

Terrible pain in shoulder blade? Do you use a computer mouse? Put your right elbow (left elbow if you mouse left handed) loosely against your side with your arm pointing straight forward, palm down, as if grabbing a computer mouse. Now, keeping your elbow at your side, slide the imaginary mouse to the right, so your upper arm stays in place but your biceps rotates to the right a bit. Is this how you hold your mouse, with your elbow at your side and forearm pointing to the right instead of straight forward? If so, just holding that position for extended periods will eventually cause terrible pain under your right shoulder blade.

This hit my father and me at the same time, and it took me a long time to realize that our mousing position was causing it. Our keyboards had numeric keypads on the right, making them stick out farther on that side. The mouse had to go to the right of the keyboard, so holding the mouse put our arms in that position. The result was disabling pain in our right shoulder blades and, eventually, necks.

The cure, after I finally figured it out, was to mouse left handed. Even though it was awkward, the keyboard was shorter on the left side. The pain started fading after a few days and was gone after a month or two. We eventually got shorter keyboards and then laptops, so our arms could either point straight forward or inward, and the problem was solved.

This won't cure everyone, but I'm sure it will help some of you.

I had this problem for 2 years until i figured out!!!! I had massive knots under my shoulder blade. This lead to burning ..numbness in my had as well as burning through under my tricep. I had my girlfriend step on my back and slowly worked out all the knots!! This was caused by the constant use of my arm as i am a Chef. I did all the doctors-and was a waste of money!!!

This person has to be light enough that you can handle it , but promise it works!!

Similar issue. Pain started with numbness, pins and needles in my right arm all the way to the palm and my left shoulder all the way to the upper part of the neck, into the low side of the occipital lobe. I tried massage therapy and it didn't make it better. It made it worst. Now my left shoulder blade is hurting (burning pain, all the time, hard to sleep at night), and my right arm, and hand did not stop hurting. I refuse to take antiinflamaory medicine because of the side effects. What is this pain? And where did this some from?
