Hello all,
I saw that user spidercomrade posted this post back in 2007:
"I have been experiencing some scary symptoms for several weeks now. I've seen two different doctors, the first one twice a week apart. The first gave me ativan for managing anxiety, which i've used up. The second has gone along with that original diagnosis and also said that my symptoms could be from allergies, recommending claritin in the morning and zantac and benadryl at night to deal with my sleeping disturbances. In addition, if these didn't work, he gave me lexapro to deal with anxiety.
On to the symptoms:
it all started with a feeling of dizziness, almost lightheadedness. It wasn't the kind of dizziness that would make me fall; it was maybe more like disorientation.
Anyway, it has progressed. This original symptoms continued when I tried to sleep. When I laid down, it felt like I was falling backwards. I would have a hard time falling asleep and then would wake up several times in the night, sometimes panicked. Also, sometimes as I was falling asleep, I would jerk and wake myself up; I would also be scared because this seemed like something that shouldn't happen. It would take me a long time to get back to sleep when I woke up in the middle of the night.
New symptoms include feeling drowsy during the day, like the feeling one gets when just waking up except for a long time. This was sometimes accompanied by some big amounts of yawning. Also, this drowsiness combined with/caused a kind of brain fog, a feeling of detachment from everything around me that made it hard to focus. I would also describe this as feeling kind of dazed; there's very little cognitive loss. I can still do pretty much everything I ever did, and I took my college finals while feeling like this and got a 3.7 gpa for the semester.
Sometimes it feels like there's pressure in my sinuses, sometimes in the top of my head; sometimes the pressure is on the left or right side of my head, sort of a headache.
Could this be allergies? What can I do to fix it? As I said, the doctor thinks it's allergies combined with anxiety, but the claritin doesn't seem to be fixing the physical symptoms. Now what?"
I know it was a while ago...but I have the EXACT same symptoms along with some other symptoms as well..and if you are still posting on this board and see this...can you PLEASE help me! Did you get diagnosed with anything?? I've been having these symptoms for almost a year now and they are very, very severe and I am very scared.
Does anyone else have any insight?
Thanks so much!

Ok I have been feeling 100% the same way, I mean exact copy and its been since i First had panic attacks, now the symptoms have added but no more anxiety and panic attacks, really little of those now.
Now when I first got my first panic attack ever, it was because I was feeling really weak for a while like 10-15 min and then i got so scared of that feeling and I got a panic attack, then the rest proceded having an insanely difficult year overhead.
I did CT of my sinusitis and it turned out I have deviated septum the sinus membranes were swallown and stuff.
I have never had any allergies in my life but I have a feeling there is something I am allergic to is causing this, or there is something else!!!
Btw I moved country 10 days before I had my PA.
But then again I cant be sure which came first, chicken or egg?

I've experienced the exact same symptoms from time to time. I think there are a few different reasons as far as what can be causing it. Allergies and sinus infections are always a major factor. Usually my allergies act up when the humidity is higher. I get an awful sore throat, dizziness and my head feels like there's a ton of pressure weighing it down. I get the head fog too when it happens. When it's raining it gets even worse because there just so much more humidity. The other time when I experienced these symptoms, but tenfold is when I quit taking my anti-anxiety med Ativan cold turkey. I had all those symptoms and more. I also noticed when I would just skip a day while taking it those symptoms would creep up. I just felt detached. It's such a powerful drug. A lot of anti-anxiety meds are like that too. I was still having all these symptoms for 6 mths. to a year after I quit. I thought I'd throw that in because I noticed someone mentioned anxiety attacks. Also, post nasal drip associated with a sore throat can cause dizziness and nausea and just a a really all around crappy feeling. I'm a little late in the reply, but I hope this helps someone.

I had the same symptoms since Oct 2007. Found out it was a combination of a deviated septum, allergys and nasal cysts. Treatment I am still on is flonase which didn't work at first but keeps things manageable now. Still have episodes where I get phlem blocking the back of my nasal passage where it meets the back of my throat. When I am able to clear it up the symptoms ussally disapate. I was a wreck the first year. Had panic attacks so bad because of it that I would start tingling down my left arm which freaked me out even more. As of now, I still getan almost dizzy feeling occationally but nothing as bad as it was and when I feel it coming on I can usually clear my throat and that makes it go away. Still, on bad days my ears block up and I can't do much about that. One thing that helped a little when I slept was saline spray. When an attack woke me I would spray a little in my nasal pasage and I was usually good for a couple hours. Hope this helps some of you.

The dizziness and panic- if at night- along with many of the symptoms you describe CAN be caused by sleep apnea- which in turn is aggravated by Sinusitis and / or allergies!
Ask for a Sleep-study to be done!!!
And get on some antibiotics for the Sinusitis!

Hi everyone... this is the first time I've posted something before but I wanted to share my story. I have the same symptoms and also am dealing with the tingling feeling and slight pain on the right side of my body (face to toes when at its worst). I was treated for anxiety, an assumption because I am planning my wedding, which was inappropriate and I knew that wasn't it. I just finished my second round of antibiotics for sinusitis, which they definitely detected, but the dizziness and fatigue and cognitive issues haven't completely gone away. I had a CT scan and the found a deviated septum. It's been a month now, and I just had an MRI the other day to test for multiple sclerosis. I'm freaked out over that, but have been told by multiple doctors that it's really a shot in the dark. I may truly just have a ton of blockage that they have to surgically remove, and I should know in a few days.

Hi, I am also being treated for similar symptoms which I've had on and off for about 18 months. I have been to a neuro otologist (basically a neurologist who specialises in the inner ear and vestibular disorders). She has identified that I have slight damage to my vestibular nerve on one side, its called vestibular neuritis. This can cause many of the the symptoms you are talking about. I'm having vestibular rehabilitation therapy (exercises to help the brain compensate for the faulty signal it receives from the ear) but these are not making alot of difference so they are now treating me for migraine since I have a history of this and suffer many migraine type visual symptoms. If you have migraine it can interfere with the brain's ability to recover from an inner ear problem. However, I'm still not convinced it isn't something to do with my sinuses, but it's a very difficult area of medicine and a certain amount of trial and error is required to find the answer. Before seeing the neuro otologist I saw a neurologist and an ENT specialist but they couldn't find anything wrong. Basically they don't have a clue when it comes to vestibular disorders. It sounds like you have an inner ear/vestibular problem. Don't worry, its not serious, just really annoying. Worrying makes the symptoms worse. Get an MRI done to be sure there's nothing serious underlying it, but it'll probably be normal, as mine was.

I have exactly the same symptoms. I have a history of migraines, and suffer very badly from visual disturbances (flashing lights, zigzags, dots etc.). About 6 weeks ago I got really dizzy - I couldn't lie down or ride in a car without the room spinning and then vomiting. The doctor said this is vertigo and that I have labyrinthitis. He gave me some meds for this and they have stopped me from vomitting but I still have other symptoms - migraine type pains but in various places on my head (usually my migraine is just the front left side of my head), very bad flashing lights to the point that I can't see sometimes, earache sometimes in both ears, twitching in my left eye, and I am struggling to concentrate and my memory has become terrible. I went for an MRI scan yesterday so am now just waiting to hear the results, however the doctor said he doesn't expect to find anything - guess you just have to go through it to rule out anything serious.
The next stage is to refer me to a specialist, think the doctor said it would be a neurologist, but from what you've said it sounds like I need to see a neuro otologist.
Sad to hear that you have had this for 18 months and nothing is helping, I'm fed up after just 6 weeks!

I'd encourage everyone here to get evaluated for TMJ, Bruxism, and bracing. Almost all the symptoms described here could be attributed to these three common problems.

It sounds like mayby you have a severe case of sinnusitus, but my concern is this. I hate to tell my story but I will if it will help u. My husband and I never fought, not physically anyway, until last august that is. Im not completely sure what all transpired I just know I woke up in a panic with a feeling I was being harmed and my husband was carrying me to the bedroom to lay me in the bed he said, but I woke up in his arms, halfway down our hallway and I just punched him three times in rapid sucession in the face! Next thing I knew he was shoving my head into the wall real hard, three or four times, I guess to get me to quit. Well to make a long story short I wouldn't let the hospital I ended up at do a cat scan even though I was so dizzy id fall down at times but I just knew I had a concusion from him doing that. I couldn't afford it cuz I had no health insurance. It went away in about four months, but recently it has returned with a vengeance and im finding it hard to drive even, and its also accompanied with severe headaces on side of my head that hit the wall and the top of my head, and deep down ear pain in my left ear at times. He went to jail that nite and ive since tried to talk to him and he swears one minute I was putting a skillet on the stove as he came in the kitchen, just in time to see me falling backwards onto the floor. I have no recollection at all of anything til I woke up suddenly in his arms in the hallway. I think you should definitely try to get a cat scan. That's where im starting anyway Monday at the drs office. Vicki

For everyone concerned about ear/nose/throat discomfort that is difficult to treat, I suggest visiting a good ENT, chiropractor, or TMJ specialist. My ENT referred me to a chiropractor for what I thought was an ear infection that wouldn't go away. The chiro referred me to a jaw specialist. After beginning treatment (and managing the occasional flare-up), my ear trouble has decreased significantly. Daily debilitating headaches are gone, too (migraines are a different story, and are infrequent, knock on wood!). Good luck to you all. I know it's miserable trying to find answers.
