Hi there. I've intermittently experienced this kind of shooting pain since I was a teenager. It's so fast I'd describe it as a stabbing sensation going from the vagina up to the cervix. It comes and goes, is extremely painful while it lasts (only seconds), but goes away. I' ve had 3 children and normal if painful (but they are aren't they?) periods my whole adult life. I just put it down to as someone else on here said - "one of those things" , perhaps it's a trapped nerve. I'm 45. Don't worry too much, but if you ever see your GP about problems, do try to avoid chemical medication if you're offered it by them. There's usually a better way to resolve heath problems, try a naturopath.
I have these pains too but not so often. They used to be once maybe twice a month, now its happening like once a week. I am 16 years old and im really scared that there is something wrong with me. I have been having these pains for about 2 years now thinking they would go away but they just keep getting worse :( someone please find out what this is....
I have these pains too. I think mine are spontaneous but maybe they are before my period. I just had a sharp pain today and my period is supposed to start next week. My pains usually last anywhere from a min to 30min and then they go away. I feel it in the left or right side of my vagina or higher up near my ovaries. I'm only 15 and this has been happening for over two years. The pain occurs like once or twice a month. When the pain occurs I instantly hunch over. It hurts to walk on the side where the pain occurs and to try to stand or sit straight. This has happened at school once and it was the scariest thing ever. I don't know whats wrong or how to stop it. I'm scared it might happen when I'm at school or somewhere else and I have to awkwardly hunch over in pain and stop walking. Can someone people tell me some suggestions or ideas to what it is or if i should see a doctor?
I am having the same pain . Im on my feet all day and when the pain strikes ,it just stops me on my tracks the pain is so sharp i feel like someone has stabbed me. just curious to know what the doctor told you.
For those of you on birth control the pains you feel may actually be a form of "labor" pains. When you take birthcontrol you are taking hormones that tells your body you are pregnant so that you do not produce eggs. When I was on the depo shot when I was younger I would get them after working out or using my abdominal muscles alot. They would be ablsoutely horrible to the point where I couldn't move and wanted to scream for an average of 30 minutes and then I would be a lil sensitive there through out the day with some pains or contractions. Putting physical stress on my body produced more of the hormone that would normally make a pregnant woman go into labor..this along with the extra hormones in the birth control shot caused this to happen. I did not realize until after I actually went into labor with my first child that the pains I had experienced in previous years (while on birthcontrol) were actually contractions. I disscussed this after the birth of my first child with my doctor and he agreed that was what happend when I was on my birthcontrol. Need less to say I did not go back on the birthcontrol.
try a chiropractor for your lower back ONLY! It will work wonders. Ask around for a GOOD one. Very important. Remember doctors are only human.
A lot of the problem with pain that is discribed here is nerve pain. Many things cause women to have nerve pain. You will get sharp shooting pain up the vagina and also your sides where your ovaries are and also knife stabbing pains up your rectum. If the pain were 24/7 you could not handle it. There is not much a doctor can do for you. Relaxing exercises and stretches help. Pain killers and muscle inflammatories help. No stress helps. Cycle's make things worse. Best thing to do is to go to the doctor first for a diagnoses in case you have something worse than cyst like a tubal pregancy. Endemetriosis will act up during your cycles and of course can cause you not to have babies. Having an abortion will cause endemetriosis and so can having a baby. All depends on the person. You've heard it before and probably will again but the best thing we can all do for ourselves is excercise (walking) stretching and eating healthy. This helps the symtoms greatly. Also like one post I read the birth control pill also helps a lot. I recommend this for the young girls as they are too young to be going through this kind of pain, I feel!
I have had the same problem so i went to the gynecologist about 3 weeks ago. Turns out I have Polycystic ovarian syndrome, which means I have a lot of cysts in my ovaries, and may never be able to have a baby. I start treatment for it soon.
Try not to be disheartened. See what they can do, but never give up hope. A positive outlook without fear is your best foundation. Looking at some of the other sharing of experiences on here, it seems that there may be all sorts of reasons for pain in this area, but then it is so intimately connected with the experience of being a woman and having cycles, though obviously your symptom has a definite cause. Trying yoga to feel calmer in your own mind might give some relief, which will be a welcome side effect on top of feeling more fit and comfortable physically in general from slowing down and feeling deep stretches. Hope you feel better soon. I recently had the first shooting pain in ages which caused me to be unable to move for a few minutes - if I tried to move (I was lying at the top of the stairs) it was agony, but it passed. I will say though that I have been feeling a lot of heavy stress lately about a family situation I feel unable to resolve. I went back to yoga/pilates after that and have started to feel a whole lot more balanced physically and mentally, arthritic aches and pains have gone too. Perhaps the shooting pain will come back again, but I've never had it diagnosed as it is too infrequent to be anything worse - I reckon. Best wishes with your situation.
