Hello. I’m 15 years old and I’m living with my parents and my sister. Few days ago my sister complained about breathing difficulties but my parents thought it was usual allergy on pollen or something similar and didn’t pay too much attention on it. But my sister’s symptoms only get worse. She could hardly breaths.
When she went to see a doctor he said that was no allergy involved but something much more serious condition called pneumothorax.
This is condition were gas is found between two layers of pleura.
Doctor also said that maybe surgery is not necessary but she must stay in hospital to be drainaged and take a talc pleurodesis therapy.
What is pleurodesis and how safe this really is?

I didn’t suffer from pneumothorax but another pulmonary inflammatory syndrome and I received a pleurodesis therapy.
It is one kind of therapy where talk is used whether by poudrage or slurry.
Talc is a hydrous silicate of magnesium, Mg3Si4O10(OH)2, and usually contains small quantities of nickel, iron, and aluminum as impurities.
Talc is the most effective pleurodesis agent available because it is easy to administer, inexpensive, virtually free of sideffects, and not associated with serious adverse events.
But, there are some people that are worried about its safety because of possible extrapleural dissemination of the talc particles in some malignant diseases.
Speak with your doctor about this and inform your self as much as you can and then decide what you should do.
