I am a 60 yr old women who led a very athelitic lifestyle, jumping horses, riding racehorses, taking out trail rides, sailing, tobogganing, sking, swimming, hiking, shoveling snow and ice yes even in the blizzard of 78, and loved every minute of it.  However, having osteoarthritis and left hip and shoulder replacement two and one yr ago am facing another shoulder replacement for extreme pain I have mixed feelings.  One is of elation, I will actually be experiencing on pain down the road, if it goes like the other two surgeries I must say I will be extremely grateful.  Because I had no problem with either one.  The only problem i am having now is, some family and friends whom seem to think i am a baby and should bite the bullet, but for those out there who have or are experiencing shoulder pain from ortho you know that anything is better than this reality.  I thought I would jump off the roof with the agony of this current problem. Some family members seem to feel its unnecessary and actually asked, "when will i be getting the other hip done. Whats a mother to do Any suggestions now that i am doubting decision?

Hi Gillian,

My Name is David, I am scheduled to have a full shoulder replacement in mid-August. I have always been very active, ex all-natural bodybuilder. I love going to the gym everyday. I guess my question to you is, what can I expect? Will I be able to go to the gym, throw the ball and play with my dogs?

I would love to hear what you have to say. Would you do it again?

Thanks David

I am not sure if you are still there and will be able to answer.
I am a 37 years old female. I had major shoulder pain for a year and a half and went in for a superscapular nerve release but my doc ended up removing all of my cartridge as it peeled off like an orange. I now need shoulder replacement surgery but am worried since I am so young. I was wondering how your suregery went and if you got rid of most of the pain and what your mobility is today. I am living with pain every day but as I call it "Livable" pain. I got around doing things that hurt such as getting dressed and putting on my bra or lifting my 2 years old son. Please reply if you can. Thank you,

I am a 56 yr old female that has had years of shoulder problems. I have had 3 surgeries on my left shoulder for severe rotator tears, and 2 on the right, again for severe rotator tears. My last surgery was 10 weeks ago. At that time, my dr. said my rotator cuff was in shredded pieces. He said it looked like it had blown up. He called for another surgeon while I was in OR to get an opinion as to whether it was worth trying to repair. The repair was with 4 screws (PLUS 2 that were from previous surgery), and it was put together the best it could. I had an MRI done 3 weeks ago, and already there is another tear! I was sent to another surgeon who specializes in the reverse shoulder replacement. He told me to go as long as I could as I was considered young for this type of surgery. I have been researching the surgery, and of coarse, i'm so scared. I'm worried about some of the complications, llike the possible displacement of my shoulder, infection, blood clots and pain. My joint itself is healthy, it's the tendons that are not strong and will not heal. Is there any advice you can give me, and tell me about the present pain, limitations, etc. thank you so much!!

I'm forty years of age and had a reverse shoulder completed on 6/17/14 by Dr. Rueben Gobezie of University Hospital out of Cleveland Ohio. I'm extremely pleased given the deterioration present in my shoulder prior to surgery. Read his bio and consider getting an appt. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
