My 10 year-old son has been on Strattera for 3 weeks now. There isn’t much improvement in his condition and he is experiencing some of the side effects. He barely eats now, I have to drag him to the table, he looks and feels tired and there are mood swings but they are not harsh. Should I consult a doctor for changing the treatment or should I wait and see? Is there anybody who had previous experiences with this drug?

It is said that it takes 4 to 6 weeks for Strattera to start working. All the side effect you numbered are common side effect of this drug. I think you should wait a bit longer and see if the drug will work for your son. You could talk to his doctor to see if there are ways to get rid of the side effect, and it would be good if you kept extra attention on those mood swings as suicidal thoughts have been reported from this drug.

All I can say is that I have been taking it for only 3 days and I noticed an IMMEADIATE change. I feel great, alert, concentrated and just overall more focused.

Im no pharmacologist, but perhaps your sons neurological condition does not warrant a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Evidently, I have a lack of this neurotransmitter, hence the instant benefits I am experiencing.

But like SSRI's, if you dont have a problem with Serotonin, the SSRI will make you feel weird. As will a Selective NRI.

Perhaps your son was misdiagnosed??? There is alot of Docs who push drugs on kids that dont need it.

Give it a few more weeks, if still nothing good, perhaps try another drug, or consider whether your son is actually ill.
