A few years ago I started getting pimples on my butt. I attributed it to the new heated seats in my car plus I sat for 8-10 a day on my job. I would pop the big ones and eventually they would heal leaving a purplish scar. Sometimes they would come back a few months later. As time past, I noticed more and more. Now I have had a total body breakout for 3 months. They start as intense itch and painful little pimple or black head and turn into inflamed, infected looking welts that scab over. Mostly they are round with tough thick edges. The middle is the ooey gooey white part. It laters turns green. Then weeks later turn white and hard and flake off a little layer at a time. They started around the hairline and face, then upper and lower back, then butt cheeks and outer thighs, then arms and legs. I went to urgent care 4 times but they sent me home with doxycycline tabs. One time added a steroid shot, another time steroid tabs. The last visit they referred me to a dermotologist. The dermotologist was in the patient room maybe 5 minutes and diagnosed me neurodermatitus. Sent me home with a 6 month supply of tetracycline med and steroid cream. None of thTis was working. A second opinion agreed with the dermotologist. I didn't buy that explanation at all. Yes, I have had mild acne my whole life but I always gently popped the pimple or blackhead with clean hands, cleaned the spot and put a dab of neospirin. I was always a fast healer and within a day or two it would be gone. So I went for a 3rd opinion. That doc did a thorough examination and ordered bloodwork. Turned out I was low on estrogen, low Vit D, low calcium, had bacterial vaginitis (no risk), chronic sinus infection, liver problem with metabolizing protein (I'm a non drinker, had pain pills a couple years for lower back problem, i also eat a lot of shashimi) and discovered an abcessed tooth. I also have had asthma, allergies, high blood pressure, low thyroid disorder, and diagnosed PTSD. I got a couple more antibiotics, hormone replacement therapy, Vit D capsules to take once a week for 4 months. In addition, I added calcium, multi vitamen, fish oil, garlic oil and probiotics. I take Losarten, Celexa, neurotin, synthroid, Ambien as needed for insomnia, and zanex as needed for panic attacks. I wash my body in hibbaclenz (or however it is spelled) and alternate sea salt baths and vinegar baths. Recently I started using Tea Tree oil directly on the sores and it has helped better than anything I have tried. No one wants near me because of the odor of Tea Tree. I have yet to be told (with a reasonable explanation) why I have this rash and for so long! I have been treating myself as if I have a contagious disease. I wash all clothes and towels with bleach. If I go outside the rash gets worse in the sunlight. I am exhausted most of the time. Memory and concentration very low. Please let me know if you discover the problem. By the way, I am a 47 uear old female. Thanks for any help you can provide!

My allergy doctor didn't go so far as to call me neurotic, but he did say;
"You have the itchy rash because you wear your pants too tight!"
I had already told him 90% of my life was spent in loose fitting cotton scrub pants or a bathrobe, because I was so miserable from the rash. I told him I only wear jeans when I go to see him.
Then he said, "If you don't scratch it, it will not be there!"
The rash is behind my hears, along the base of my scalp, on my shoulders, stomach, back, tailbone, and other places on my trunk. Not sure how the tight pants would affect all those areas. My husband said, "You wear your pants too high!" and we both laughed.
It turns out (after seeing a dermatologist) I have an auto-immune disorder that causes chronic hives. I want to clock the jerk allergy doctor for his ignorant, ridiculous comments to me.
You are not causing your outbreaks because you are neurotic. You may well be neurotic because of the rash though! I know I am. Find another doctor and try again.
My various skin issues are caused by: several severe food allergies, celiac disease, and now chronic autoimmune urticaria.
I wish you well as you try to find a cause and a cure for your skin issues. My treatment is not working so I am pretty miserable most of the time. Someone needs to design a sexy, comfortable bathrobe I can wear all the time.
