So thankful that I found this discussion. I woke up this morning with what felt like a popcorn kernel in the back of my throat. I looked under my wife's vanity mirror (it has a magnification side) and saw a large white spot on my right tonsil. A little disturbed, I did a quick online search and found this discussion. My wife also used to be an esthetician, so she had one of those tools (extractor) that is normally used for extracting things from the face. There is a large loop side (which she never uses) and a smaller loop side. I sterilized the large loop (just in case), and did a little prodding at the thing on my tonsil. At first, just a little came off the surface. A little more pressure and the whole thing popped out, it wasn't very secure in there. It was pretty large, about the size of a pea. It was all imbedded, as it looked just like a flat surface white spot when it was in there. I took another quick look and saw another smaller spot on the left tonsil. A little prodding and that one came out too. Completely painless, and the scratchy feeling is gone. You can see the craters (for lack of a better term) where the spots used to be. Thanks for those who posted this idea, saved me a trip to the doctor. I'd recommend gargling every night to be rid of these little problems.

Talked to my dentist about this. Its apparently connected to pores enlarging when your sick. Food is sometimes then able to wiggle its way into their. As a response your body attacks it and I think that may be where the brown crud develops from. Makes sense.

Hello All,

Two weeks back I felt there is somthing difficulty to swallow any thing, then I have seen my throat on mirror, then I found one white dot at the place of tonsil, then the next day I observed no dot, after 2 days one night I have taken chill water only one sip, next day morning i felth throat pain then I observed 3 white dots in the throat then went to doctor, after seeing doctor said I hope you have fever then he checked the temparature, I had fever also immediatly he said go to government hospital then will test whether its dipteria or not. Then i went to government hospital they tested the result is negative even though they ask me admi in the hospital for 5 days they gave me 5 days treatment each day nearly 6 injuctions after 3 days all the dots and pain gone, when I am taking the course they ask me to take only dal rice and idly no sour items like butter milk or curd, tamorand things fruits. Only dal rice, idly. So on sixth day I have discharged with some medicine and they suggested complete bed rest for 2 weeks. After I reached home I have taken curd rice on the next day means yesterday again I got one white dot.

I am really worriying what would happen... tommorow going to see doctor.

If the result is negative (Diptheria) its reallally dangarous it would effect liver and heart.

I though I had a cold/sore throat coming in this morning (maybe I do). Looked in the mirror and saw a flourescent looking wite/yellow spot on my tonsil. Managed to get a finger down there and gently pressed. Like others, a semi solid p***y stuff ended up on my finger. No pain and little pressure was required, spot now gone - no bleeding. As others have sadi the excreted stuff smells foul.

I have found that the white spots only return if I do not take my Nexium for acid reflex. It is often accompanied fever and sore throat. I believe these chunks of white smelly debris is the bi-product of acid. Your digestion in the key.  Also a note to think about. I also found out that acid reflex was the cause of my nausea and irritable bowel syndrome (makes sense due to too much acid). The daily Nexium pills stopped all of these things from happening. As long as I continue to take them. Hope this helps someone. Good Luck.

Yep, I had this too, it is definitely not a tonsil stone (I get those also).  This one is nowhere near my tonsil, more on the soft palate area.  I just rinsed with mouthwash and the white spot went away!  Did not *wash* away, but something in the antiseptic mouthwash made it "pop" I guess.  Weird -- I will keep an eye on it to see if it returns.

Regarding the tonsil stones, I do the same thing many of you do to dig them out (I use a q-tip or pen cap!) BUT almost always end up getting a headcold as a result of doing this.   Of course I always wash hands first and disinfect the digging tool first.  Lately after tonsil-stone digging, I gargle with the antiseptic mouthwash and that seems to help avoid the cold, but doesn't always do the trick.  I have to weigh the benefits each time: dig the annoying crud out and suffer a cold or hope it comes out on it's own...

More weirdness:  Sometimes when I shout a lot (at a concert or sports game or just playing with my kids) a tonsil stone will work its way out then.  Good luck fellow sufferers!!

I just rinsed my mouth with hot salt water then began reading these and began to sneeze ALOT atleast 10 times which is very uncommon for me but then I checked my mouth because I didn't feel that annoying white dot anymore and now it's gone haha, maybe it popped after sneezing so many times or something? werid. lol

It's good to know I'm not alone. I've had one of these white spots every few weeks. I've tried to hook these out of my throat but they are to far back and I just end up retching. Has anyone got any ideas about anything I could gargle with to get rid of them? Thanks.
