Started my period

i started see my period when i was nine and it was very regular and after the years had passed it began to come very irregula like four times a four a year. Now im seventeen and i have only seen it once for the year 2010 i dont have cramps all i have is the yellowish discharge and a strong smell and i am not on birth control what is the problem
