I had a cortisone injection directly in my knee October 2016. I was told I would not gain wait. That is a lie. I gained weight in my stomach and legs and haven't been able to get it off. Also my body fat composition changed. I am very angry that I was lied to. I dread the summer. I love the beach and was proud to still be able to wear a bikini at my age. But I have no intention of going to the beach this summer. This is so depressing. WARNING: Do NOT listen to the Doctors. Cortisone injection do cause weight gain.

I'm in the same boat. I've gained almost 20lbs in less than 2 months and the worst of it is my upper abdominal area, face, neck and arms. It's disgusting and depressing. I'm starving all the time, trying to fill up on water by guzzling it all day to no avail. I've had an epidural, a nerve block and several trigger point injections that caused this. My lower back injury would have healed on its own by now. Now I have to deal with the slew of side effects, it's not just weight. I'm rage full angry and irritated, insomnia at night tired during the day, hot and sweaty. ...never again.

I am going through the EXACT SAME THING. I had 2 shots in my back 2 years ago and put on 30-35 lbs. I also have done Master Cleanse and other detox regimes and in the gym working my butt off but have only dropped 5 lbs in 2 months. Please let me know if you find an answer to get the weight off.

Do you still deal with this? I have gained almost 30 pounds since I started cortisone shots 2 yrs ago. Nothing fits. Its so depressing when you can't lose it like before.

I agree with you. It is DISGUSTING. I had steriod injection for bulging disk and pinched sciatic. I was in 24 hr pain and couldn't even drive. It has put a good 8 pounds on me and I am so upset. I didn't have any other choice but to have back surgery. Had I to do it again, I would have gone for the back surgery! I wold NEVER do this again. Dr. PA gave ma a different story - than the PT's. All the PT said was EVERYBODY complained about the same thing - weight gain.

I think you're on the wrong forum

I am with you, I'm going through the same thing, and I think the injections increase your appetite, which causes the weight gain. Whatever cortisone shot you take will cause you to gain weight.

You don't know what you're talking about. Period.

Yeah I am none too happy about this weight gain, I have a closet full of clothes that I can't even wear. I had a steroid injection last May and before that I had injections. I have gained a total of 60 pounds within two years and it's starting to consume me and my thinking and is quite very depressing. I need help and weight loss for sure

Interesting... I also stumbled upon this site as I have dropped six lbs in 10 days after receiving a Kenelog shot for my seasonal allergies... oddly, I had been watching my diet attempting to drop 10 lbs in the 90 days prior... with virtually no success (fluctuated some, but the net loss was 1 lb)... suddenly the weight is now dropping off. I am thinking that my body must've so inflamed from the allergies, that I couldn't get my metabolism to work correctly... any thoughts?

I totally agree! I had 4 epidural steroid injections in lower back and I gained weight! It will be a year next month since I had the last one! I gained weight in the abdominal area & breasts! It's coming off, but super slow! I believe it messes with your metabolism that helps you lose weight. If I knew what I know now, I would never had taken then. I still had to have back surgery anyway! Believe me when I say steroid injections put weight on you! They are only a bandaid!

Yes! I understand. I had steroid injections in spine yesterday and gained 13 lbs overnight. I've had them before and did not experience this..
I'm so sorry for your situation. Thank you for posting.

I agree. I have gained 22 lbs since getting bi-monthly steroid injections within the last year! I’ve been trying to avoid surgery by receiving these ineffective over priced epidurals and injections, in a desperate attempt to mask symptoms from the now 5 ruptured discs I have in my back. I look pregnant. Feet and legs swollen. Triple chin. Etc etc Do not trust your doctor when he says they don’t cause weight gain. He makes a lot of money every time he injects so he’s the last person who’s going to shoot straight with you and admit that without a doubt you will experience either weight gain or in some lucky cases, weight loss. Take it from my fat ass...yes you will gain weight no matter how healthy you eat and drink.
