Er, Tiffany, if you are old enough to have had a period, then I suggest you pop down to a clinic or at least a pharmacy and do a pregnancy test. There's a reason they call it a menstrual (monthly) cycle. No cycle, you're either having a baby, or a problem (if having a baby isn't already a problem for you). For many, a baby is a miracle: if you don't feel that way, then take a deep breath, deal with the facts, not your fears, and big hint that you're not going to like: find some grownups (real, not online) to speak to.
You're not the first girl to get pregnant and be surprised, nor will you be the last, but every time it's a big deal, and older people, even your parents, whether you believe that or not, want to make sure you experience the best in life, even if the choices you face, or the reactions, don't make it seem that way.
So deal with the facts, and I'd suggest, in this order:
a) take a deep breath, and decide you're going to take charge of this
b) make a list in your head or paper of two or three people that you can call on for advice
- you don't have to know them personally 'my doctor', 'the lady at the veterinary clinic' (if she seemed warm and trustworthy), whatever
c) be prepared, be responsible
- if you are pregnant, how will your family, boyfriend, etc react
- don't overreact yourself, pregnancy is how the human race is alive, it's a good thing, just not a choice you thought you'd made
d) listen to advice
- your mum screaming may not be the advice you want to hear, but try to understand she's scared for you, not angry at you
- ditto dad
e) pay attention
- to your safetfy - if there is ANY concern as to your well-being, go to a trusted friend or official first, answer back later
- to your health - get the facts, listen to advice from medical professionals (I'm just a grown up)
- to your future - babies aren't the end of the world, they're the beginning: make it real, and never forget that
f) take action
- get the test - if you're not pregnant, then go see a doctor to explain the lack of period
- live your life - you may or may not have someone else shortly in your life, that's up to you - be aware of your choices
- stay loyal - to yourself - this is your life, not your parents', your boyfriend's, your priest's - your life. Do what's right for you.
Above all, take care, and next time, read the label. Sex is a great way to make kids, that's why it's there.
Smile. You're now experiencing a miracle - or so they tell us.
Take care
Andrew.
