I have been taking Stilnoct for over five years.
Due to chronic depression I spent a few months in a psych unit and after Temazapam failed to help me sleep I was given Stilnoct - 5mgs at first which didn't help and then 10 mgs.
The 10 mgs worked and I slept great every night from about midnight and was up at 7am everyday feeling great with no 'hangover' effects.
After I was discharged my sleep problems returned and I relapsed into an irregular sleep pattern - sometimes sleeping during the day and being awake all night and sometimes being awake for periods of up to 36 hours.
I believe that the routine or regimen imposed on me during my stay in hospital (I was a voluntary patient) was the reason for my good sleeping pattern. Since then my sleep has gone seriously 'off kilter' again.
Basically, what I'm saying is if you can follow a self-imposed daily routine, especially regarding beditme and rising time then Stilnoct can be a great help.
Unfortunately I do not practice what I preach. Due my personal condition I find it hard to follow a routine unless it is imposed on me (as was the case in hospital).
I believe that, after the first couple of months in hospital, my dependence on Stilnoct for a good night's sleep became more psychological than physiological and If I had had the strength of spirit to believe that, I could stopped taking it and still slept well.
Stilnoct does work but it is not a 'magic bullet' - you have to work with it to not need it.
I hope these few words help at least one person to wean themselves of the 'sleepers'.
Good luck friends.
John.
