My boyfriend is having the same symptoms. We're in Las Vegas on vacation and we both ate the same stuff all day. He's 26 years old and is used to drinking alcohol. We went out to party last night. He got pretty drunk, but I've seen him drink way more and be pretty okay the next day, no vomiting. But last night eversince we got back to the hotel, he's been vomiting practically every 20 minutes. I thought he'd be fine by the afternoon after throwing up everything, but it's evening already and he's still having to vomit constantly. He can't hold down any food, not even a water. I would really like to know what has changed.

We leave tomorrow morning at 6am for our 6 hour flight and I hope he's better by then. Any suggestions? Help please!

I am 39 years old and have been having this problem on and off since I was 25. Today is Sunday and I am recovering from Friday, when I had 6 beers in about 7 hours. Yesterday, I had nausea, vomiting (about 12 times-twice at work!), HORRIBLE headache, joint pain and stiffness, chills, weakness, and that general crappy feeling. Today I vomited (dry-heaved) once in the morning and am hoping to keep food down now. Painkillers don't work for the headache AT ALL. I had a couple waffles and a couple cups of coffee and am feeling about 70% human, but still not up to par. I have made the decision to possibly just stop drinking (which sucks because I am a musician and general social butterfly) or maybe just limit myself to two drinks per night. I can't take this anymore!

My friends own a farm about an hour from me and twice a year they host a music festival. My fiance and I bring like two cases of beer and we finish it over two days; I have never had a single headache, nausea, NOTHING.

There is no rhyme or reason to any of this; it is so confusing to me. I have also felt like this after drinking just after starting my menstrual cycle, which I am told is very stupid. So now I don't do that, but this time i was not even close.

It IS nice to know I'm not the only one, so thanks, everyone, for all of your posts.

I'm 21. This is the first time something like this happened to me.  But I've been sick now for over 24 hours, and i had just 4 or 5 shots, when I can do more than 9 and be fine the next day.  I've thrown up twice, driving makes me sick, and water tastes very bad for some reason.  This is sooo strange.  When I threw up it felt the same as food poisoning but this is lasting soooo long.  Hope a doc looks into this

I'm 23 and have had this problem since I first started drinking 6 years ago. Pretty much everytime I drink the next day I'll have extreme sickness, but because I can't keep anything down it's just dry retching and bile (which is absolutely horrible to bring up). I also have the shakes, chills, runny nose and sneezing. I now don't drink unless it's a big event but I have to make sure there's nothing planned for the next day because I'm sure I'll spend it in bed and rushing to the toilet. Every now and then I get a 'free' night, where the next day somehow there's no hangover, but they're really rare! I went to see 3 doctors about this and each time I was just told 'don't drink'. It's so frustrating to be told to cut something out of your life that is such a big part of socialising and something I really enjoy.

The only thing I've found that can help is milk thistle tablets, but these need to be taken everyday rather than just the day before drinking, and pro-biotic drinks. Again these need to be taken daily and not just on drinking/hangover days. They don't completely stop the hangovers and the sickness but they do seem to lessen the effects. Hope this helps!

I'm 19 and had this problem since the first time I got really drunk about 5-6 years ago, and every time since.  I thought it was normal at first but then I realized everyone getting totally different hangover symptoms.  The only thing that I've found that brings relief is drinking maalox before and after drinking alcohol and if needed in the morning.

I also have this problem after drinking now for last 10 years am now 29. I have not only sickness but feel bad for two three days after drinking, which is shame as I can only make one day out with the boys drinking a week :-/.

I have found however from the chemist sick bands. Sounds strange but put them on in the morning and you will not be sick. There are call acustraps you strap them round your wrists, they are meant to be for sea sickness.

Anyhoo if anyone else finds a cure for the other symptoms please post.

I have wasted so many weekends being hung over I considering going T-total. Well hey at least we won’t become alcoholics J

Wow, other people out there have this problem too? I've tried just about everything.  I tried maalox before drinking and it did help but I try not to take it too much it's not healthy.  I also have noticed something else that provides relief and atleast makes me want to eat.  marijuana.  I know this is not a practical remedy for many people, but hey it does work.  If you live where it's medicalized, I would think nausea would certainly be a valid reason to get a medical mj card and give it a shot.  Honestly, this opened my eyes and has made me realize how dangerous alcohol is for the body, so less alcohol and more mj for me I feel like my future depends on it.

Exact same thing happened to me. I'm 26 yrs old and have had sum bad nights with alcohol before but never would have a hangover really. Usually when I wake up it will wear off in a hour or 2. But this past weekend I woke up Saturday morning after a night of drinking and i felt as tho I had food/alcohol poisoning. I was throwing up all day long and had lil bit of diarreha and a lot of nausea. I kept drinking water but within 5mins I would be throwing it back up. Eventually I was puking up sum green bile looking stuff. I was in bed all day until about 8'oclock at night when I finally decided to just smoke sum of my medicinal marajuana. Now sum people might not acknowldge or understand the healing effects weed can have, such as old folks like my dad, but yes marajuan does have medical purposes...I feel like a strong heavy indica strain such as purple kush, etc. Helps better than just sum green sativa. Because indica strains give you a body high and that is exactly the effects I needed to feel better. Within 2 hits I immediatly started to feel the effects working on my body and the nausea went away completely. Within 10 mins I was drinking cups and cups of water and started munching on cookies lol, I felt great, awhole lot better and being able to digest the food and water felt so good. Didn't throw up the rest of the night and found myself wanting more food but nothing too heavy cus of the hell my stomach been through all day. So I went to subway and ate the best dam sandwich in ever had. It was a horrible day and definetly gots me not even wanting to touch the alcohol again. But most likely will

Hi everyone, I have been recommended this page by a friend who searched for info for me after I complained to her about my 'evil' hangovers. I am very happy to know that I am not a total freak and experiencing this alone. Nobody I know personally has this problem and I was beginning to think I was the only one!

I am 26 years old and I suddenly developed this problem one day at the age of, I think 22. After a crazy new year's eve I spent the whole of the next day in agony, until midnight. I had massive stomach convulsions all day, and they continued even after there was no acid left in my stomach to vomit. I think someone earlier referred to it as 'dry-sick' or something. It was like that. I was cold and violently shaking but felt uncomfortable and suddenly overheated if I covered up with a blanket. I cried because everything hurt, I couldn't walk upright because the stomach convuslions had been so severe that my stomoach muscles caused me agony and I had to walk crouched over. Every time I vomited my head pounded with pain, but this actually gets better once I lie down and relax again (I have never suffered from diarrhoea as part of the symptoms though, as some of you have). Of course at the time this happened I assumed I had over-indulged and given myself alcohol poisoning (it was new years eve, after all), but since that day, every single time I drink more than 2 or 3 alcoholic drinks I have suffered exactly the same, horrible ordeal.

I think that my problem is definitely related to, as many of you are saying, a high amount of stomach acid in some way. The reason I think this is because of the amount of it I tend to vomit up the day after drinking! I can drink two or three alcoholic drinks and feel ok the following day, but any more and I am in my bed/bathroom all day long, usually until 8 or 9pm, but sometimes until midnight, when I suddenly seem to snap out of it. At this point I suddenly feel extremely thirsty and drink lots of water. This will often be the first time I am able to drink water in sometimes 10 hours or more without throwing it up (despite being desperately, desperately thirsty and wanting to drink water and re-hydrate). I then feel very hungry and want to eat, but after a bite or two I am really full and can't face it. I then need another full nights sleep and the following day I am back to normal again.

I admit that I am a binge drinker and I do sometimes drink to excess (as do a lot of people if they are honest!), although now due to my hangovers I have cut down on my consumption a bit. I know that binge drinking is bad for me and has probably made my problem a lot worse, and I am to blame for that. I always thought that I developed my problem due to binge drinking from a young-ish age causing me to have stomach problems, but found it strange that out of so many friends who have been drinking the same amount as me for the same length of time as me, I was the only one suffering so badly.

I always make sure there is nothing I need to do the following day if I decide to go out drinking, as I know I will not be able to do ANYTHING all day. Travelling by any means of transport is completely and utterly out of the question. I have some relief from my syptoms the next day if I eat some kind of carby food before I go to bed to 'soak-up' the alcohol (even 1 small slice of toast seems to make a bit of a difference) and remember to drink some water (the more the better - I try to drink at least a pint because I know I won't be able to keep any down the next day, 2 pints is better though, but sip it, don't gulp it down as this makes you feel dodgy). A friend when I was at uni also recommended drinking a pint of water and, with it, taking 2 Paracetemol or 2 Aspirin BEFORE you go to sleep. He believed it regulated your body temperature which helps your body cope with trying to process the alcohol while you sleep, I'm not sure if there's any ounce of truth in that, but it occassionally does the trick for me (not all the time though).

After reading the advice posted I will try to get my hands on some of the recommended drugs. I hope these will be available from a pharmacy without prescription here in Portugal, I'm sure I can find something. Thank you so much to everyone who has posted their experiences, maybe if it is more talked about docotrs will create a miracle drug for us sufferers, and then we can all go out drinking to celebrate! And still make plans for the next day! Good luck all x

Everyone here is probably suffering from GERD (Gastric reflux disease) . It's when the muscle valve from the oesophagus to the stomach
has been weakened and cannot close properly when the food passes by or liquid into the stomach , thus the stomach produces acid to digest the food or liquid and some acid may go past the muscle valve into the oesophagus , which is called "Acid reflux" or heartburn .
Symptoms are nausea , vomiting and a bitter taste .

The only cure for the long run is to MODIFY your lifestyle  (exercise a bit more , but only exercising 3 hours  after a meal). When sleeping , raise the head of your bed by 20cm (so acid may not flow into the oesophagus) Eat more frequent meals (5 times a day) but very mild . Sleep on the left side is better than on the right. Don't move a lot after having a meal .

Your meal ought to be a PH over 7 . Which is alkaline . So avoid the following :
1-Tomatos
2-coffe
3-orange juice and other citric drinks and fruits
4-salt and pepper
6-soda drinks and alcohol
7-smoking
8-spicy food
9-fried food

Don't eat 5 hours before you go to sleep

What to eat :

1-grilled chicken breast or grilled fish
2-steamed rice
3-salads
4-yogurt
5-milk
6-bananas
7-porige

and whatever you can find thats not acidic of a PH

and what ever
These are the main elements that trigger reflux or produce excess acid .

Consult your doctor and he probably will suscribe you with Nexium . Its a pill that neutralises the acid in your stomach .
and Motolium - 10 mg pill before meals to take the nausea away .

I totally agree. I drink wine on a consistent basis and I find that the wrong food combination can bring on this "abnormal hangover" the wine is the same...everything is the same but the food. So it has to be the culprit.

I'm 24 years old and after drinking 6 drinks Saturday night in a 5 hour period (4 beers & 2 shots) (I'm 5'6" 120lbs), I vomited once on the way home, once when I got home and every half hour from waking at 8AM Sunday to 6PM Sunday night. Every time I would eat a cracker or drink water/juice, it would come right back up. My friend is 5'5" 93lbs and she drank exactly what I drank all night, same amount and same alcohol and didn't vomit a single time. She said she woke up with a bit of a headache but was perfectly fine the rest of the day. I've always socially drank ... maybe a couple times a month but it seems that when I have more than 2 drinks, you can count me out all the next day. This is SO annoying. I like to drink while I'm out to get a fun buzz ... I'm of the age afterall, but I am starting to think that I'm just not able to drink like my friends do. I see that I am not the only one with this problem! I wonder if I may have a stomach ulcer?

i am 42 now and have always been able to drink and have a normal hangover the next day. the past few years i have suffered on and off which has scared me to have a social drink with friends etc. i went to the docs after saying right thats it something has gotta be wrong and then got put forward to a consultant. the doc had put me on ormeprezole thinking it was acid reflux etc.and i had been on them for over a year or maybe longer i cant remember. i saw the consultant this year and i had a gastroscopy down my throat, all clear tho they took a biopsy to be sure. then a while later had a colonoscopy all still all ok. i had ultra scan on my organs and they seemed okay. your guess is as good as mine.

i was sick for about 12 hrs the next day in dec after a night out and then again this july 2012 after only a few drinks but this time was 18 hrs. i havent a clue why this happens but im feeling a little unsocial as i must admit. im fine with 2 glasses of something to socialise with but am scared to drink more as will result in constant vomiting for hrs on end. my stomach concaves and i feel poisoned and weak. lastly i dont know any1 who suffers weirdly like this, its horrible not knowing the answer. all i get is dont drink lol which yeah i can agree with normally dont but its nice sometimes and but ive been fine with a few on some ocassions. by the way folks i dont have a drink problem and am certainly not a heavy drinker either just clarify this lol

I have almost cut drinking out of my life for good because of this, it was making me seriously unwell like I felt like I was dying. My forehead was burning hot all the time and I was vomiting every 15 minutes and couldn't hold down a glass of water for 5 minutes. As well as having the runs all the time and feeling half dead sometimes my whole body would just be drenched in sweat from feeling so sick. I felt extremely ill so I would lie in bed 1 to 2 days with a ice pack on my forehead which semi relieved the sickness feeling I think by bringing down my temp. My stomach muscles were sore for days from vomiting so much and so hard. I honestly believe now that I were to do this more than 5 or 6 times a year it will cause me seriously damage and maybe kill me. I am put off on being drunk its lost it's buzz altogether and no way is it worth feeling like a dying chemo patient for even 1 day just for that drunk feeling for a couple of hours.
