I hate leaving this comment :( but It took me 2 years after quitting to get my weight back. I bloated right away, tried probiotics/ colon cleanse/ diuretics, you Name it! Stayed messed up for quite awhile. Also gained 20lbs and it wouldn't budge. I worked out & did a keto diet, but nothing worked. I was determined not to go back to smoking so I bought bigger clothes & kept fighting! Almost exactly two years later I Finally got my figure back & without the nasty habit. My best friend just quit 1 year ago & still dealing with a 20lb gain. Have faith & weight your options, Not Yourself! it was rough for me going through that long stretch but I can assure you it dosent last forever! And it's all Soooo worth it!

The poster above is 100% correct! Nicotine is a stimulant, it speeds up peristalsis. After many years of relying on nicotine to do the GI tract's job, it doesn't know how to work like it's pre-smoker state. Also nicotine increases the amount of stomach acid, thus why some develop ulcers, but some will develop hypochlorhydria which feels just as bad as too much acid causing all the symptoms mentioned in this post. Definitely see your provider, they can give you something temporarily until your GI tract gets used to working on it's own once again. Remember patience, and like the post above states, quitting smoking is the best thing you'll ever do for yourself, well, well worth it, do NOT give up!

I quit smooking 2 months ago , and i used to go to the gym on daily bassis and i wanted to quit smoking so i can get more energt to do cardio and loose wieght , at the biggening it was great and i did do more cardio but after 2 weeks i start feeling stings in my chest , one day i was setting i feont to the computer and i started feeling those stings , i got trrefied that something wrong is happening to me and then my heart rate went so high i thought i was going to have a heart attack , i let my big brother take me to the hospital and they said it was pannic attack and the chest pain and stings was out of gas , it happened to me a second time when me and my friend went for a eun after i finish my heart started to beat so fast that i thought it was going to explode , and that was the last time i did any exercise , then my digest problems started , i was always in pain as there a feeling that someone is holding my colon , and as soon as i put anything in my mouth i feel my belly will explode and i start to burp and feel uncomphortable at all , one day i slept on the ground , i wen to many doctors they all said its ibs , they gave me all kind of treatment but nothing workeed except librax , it release my guts from pain , i did blood urine and stool tests there wa nothing , as soon as i start to let it go as no doctor has giving me an answer for what is ibs or what is it with me i start looking for other ways , i live in a midle east contry and i start looking for altarnatives ( herb midicines ) i found out that in the past they used to treat ibs symtemps with something called loomi ( dried black lime ) they bring 5 of them they took the seeds away and they crush the limes with one spoon of suggar until it become so soft , and they take a tea spoon of it aftet every meal for 3 times a day for almost one month and all the symtoms will go away , actually i lost hope and i start to try it , it has ben almost a week since i start eating it and i start feeling better ( i quit taking anyother medicine except for gaz releasers ) i realy started to feel betterso and i am going to take it for a whole month on daily bassis and i believe it will heal me , so guys try it and tell us if it heals you too , i was going crazy untill i start to feel better , yestrday i couldnt resist i ate burger and i didnt feel anything it is like magic

I'm glad I'm not alone. I'm having huge stomach bloat. Its not gas it almost feels like the tissues are filled with water. Someone suggested a water pill. So I'm going to try that. But yes this quitting smoking is making me feel like c**p. I'm debating weather its worth it

The reason is well known. I will break it down for you. Inside your body are chemicals. One is called acetylcholine. Also inside your body are receptors. This is a lock and key relationship. The chemical being the key, and the receptor being the lock. When the key turns the lock something happens. When actylcholine hits it's receptor it causing it to activate. All along your intestines are millions and billions of receptors for actylcholine. And when you smoke, the nicotine activates these and improves your digestive motion. When you quit smoking you lose a large portion of your digestive motion, leaving you with constipation. It will return to normal eventually, but the whole time you were smoking you were likely to have a very regular bowel health, due to the nicotine.

I have stomach bloat also. I may do an Epson salt purge to see if its just a back-up from metabolic slow down. If someone knows what exact cause of bloat after quitting smoking please post remedy or course of action. It is worth it quitting despite the body punishing you for doing so.
