Omg I have had this problem for 3 years now. It felt like I was going to rip apart. I have seen every specialist, tried every medication even probiotics 2 a day. NOTHING gave me relief. Today I happened to have fresh ginger on hand. I keep it frozen and grated a tbsp or so into a hot cup of water, about 10 oz. I immediately felt relief from the bloating. This is the only thing that has worked for me. I am so excited to finally have some relief. I have yet to have regular bowel movements but I am hoping not having the stress from the pain and worry will help. I am also seeing a gi doc and taking a stab at a combination of amatiza, moral and magnesium. Praying this helps. My stomach has been so big for so long I forgot what it felt like. Thank god...thank god! Another big worry I have a vacation to riviera maya in a couple weeks and if I couldn't find relief I was going to have to cancel. If you are experiencing painful bloating and gas without any relief PLEASE TRY THE GINGER! 3 YEARS! I FINALLY FEEL NORMAL AND CAN TAKE DEEP BREATHS!

Update that GAPS diet had no effect in helping my digestive system, I am now concentrating on treating my stomach acid with supplemental acid 'HCL Betaine with Pepsin, initial results are good but it's not a cure all as you can only take it when you eat a decent amount of protein, so for snacks and drinks it can't be taken, although I will experiment as it has seemed to help with reducing my reflux, I'm now 9 weeks out from smoking and have lost almost 5kg, although I feel I am finally able to eat enough to sustain my weight now and not lose anymore, also GAPS for the last 3 weeks played a part in weight loss as it's so very restrictive, but, as I suspected, I have no allergies to foods. After much more research/digging online I feel stomach acid is severely declined (causing bloating and reflux) and that bile is not adequately produced as a consequence of lowered acid, have yet to address this with supplementation as I need to tweak my dosage for the Betaine HCL. Overal I feel things are improving in tiny increments, so it may well be time but I don't think it (digestive system) will ever be what it was without help. Will update after some time on the acid supp'.

Absolutely not in your head I am suffering right now is severe walking issues since I stop smoking also lso bad I look like I'm nine months pregnant I can't bend over it's s been five months almost 6 months and a week since I stopped smoking today I had it and I bought a pack of cigarettes and started smoking immediately I started to go to the bathroom pain still I'm not able to walk? Water keeps coming out of me all the time I have to run to the bathroom I've never Pee so much i Really was so happy to have made it this far and feel so sad that I had to return to such a terrible disgusting habit I don't know what they're putting into cigarettes that the doctor can't give us to help with fluid or bathroom issues it seems ridiculous someone's lying their pockets Americans people suffering! if you really think about it why in the world with doctors be saying stop smoking and Americans are still allowed to buy such a strong drug we so many toxins in it that would be given to our children someone do the math someone's making money on the American people can't tell me that doctors can't give can't do anything to help ridiculous! And no one wants to nicotine companies down because it makes a lot of money for in the economy and it kills a lot of innocent children Seem so sad every time you see your doctor they said you should really stop smoking? I think they really should say they should really stop selling cigarettes to anyone but they absolutely won't because it helps the economy kills people every day but they selling packs cigarettes to our children:(

Hi!

Firstly, congrats to both of you for being strong to kick this awful habit. It may not be easy but it is totally worth it if you weigh the benefits of quitting. I quit in January 2017 and since last few days started to experience excessive bloating.

I smoked for approx 25 years, almost a pack a day.

Anyways, I read may be a gazillion articles on this subject and tried something last night that helped.

Boil water with a small piece of ginger for few minutes (until you can smell the ginger in the water, its mostly few minutes after the boil).
Let it cool down a little and remove the ginger piece. It should still be warm though.
Then put 4 drops of lemon juice in that water and a tea spoon of honey.
Stir it and drink it before going to bed and in the morning.

It worked for me and I hope that it will work for you too. My bloating has reduced to almost 90% and it is not even 14 hours.

Goodluck

I am with you guys. I quit 3 weeks ago and i was already diagnosed with IBS before i quit. Well the past 3 weeks have been more than miserable. Aside from the nicotine withdrawals my IBS is at an all time high. Can't eat anything without being bloated and uncomfortable. I have IBS medicine and following the LOW FODMAPS diet and NOTHING is working! Smoking again sounds way better than this feeling.

I'm so glad to know I'm not alone in all this! I quit in February and the "6 month pregnant belly" hasn't improved at all. I've tried juice fasting, water fasting, intermittent fasting, low FODMAP diet, food allergy tests, probiotics, digestive enzymes.. even had a Ct scan and endoscopy to rule out anything else. I'm beyond frustrated but returning to the cancer sticks isn't an option.
I will try the ginger tea, as that's seemed to help some of you. Hope you all find some relief soon.. and please let us know if any of you find some other remedies!

Replying to my last post for an update, sadly nothing is working and I'm at my wits end, 4 months since I had a cigarette, my husband is insisting i smoke again as I have no quality of life and am in pain constantly. I'm now on 2 acid blockers per day, the extra acid I took seemed to help initially but my reflux is beyond bad, my teeth are starting to erode and my throat is raw so I"m taking Omeprazole. I eat only oatmeal 2-3 times a day but by days end I'm always in pain as I usually like to drink tea and nibble tiny amounts of other foods, the bloating is lessened but still an issue, everything feels like glass in my intestines now, I've had no diagnostics as I'm uninsured, I have intense sharp pains under my ribs and in my back as food grates along my intestines, even ice cream does this now. You can see from my previous posts I've tried every supplement and diet available but with no joy. I don't want to smoke as I know I'd never ever give up again knowing what is ahead. Again this all started within 48 hrs of my last cigarette, I have a decision to make, I promised I'd give it 6 months will update in another 2 or before if something positive happens...........

Thanks to all that have posted. this is difficult. for some who did not have these issues but know someone who does this effects about 20% of x-smokers. study by Mayo Clinic of 1500 ppl going into smoking rehab facility for 30 days. unfortunately only 500 made it to the end of the program. of those 500 20% who experienced GI issues approx 11% had serious GI issues.
i find myself among the 11%. as do some here, obviously.
being the latest attempt by me to quit i am in the 7th month. lucky my girlfriend has a good since of humor and we go for a mile or so walk every night so i can "gas off" before bed. i also regularly ride a bicycle 3-4 hrs at least 3 times a week. i am much stronger but have not lost any of the excess weight or reduced the belly bloat.
i can say it is is better than a few months ago. so i believe there is light at the end of this tunnel.
thanks for the ideas. i am going to incorporate them on a rotating basis to try and find something that works for me.
we can get through this. :)

Thanks for the update Gerald, it's good to know you're coping but disheartening to know you're at 7 months without much improvement, I'm at 5 months and in the same boat. Do you have a link for the study? As Steady Health doesn't permit links you'd have to edit it with 'dot'com or something similar. Thanks keep on keeping on
