A couple weeks ago I was at a concert and from outside my field vision someone kicked me in the groin. I was hit in the front of the left testicle, and within ten minutes it was so swollen that I worried that I may have a hernia (I had one when I was very young so it came to mind soon) but my parents called a doctor and I was told it was just swollen. I was unable to ice it for about 6 hours, and it was very swollen for five days. The pain was worse then than during the injury, when it was not too bad at all. The swelling has since gone down quite a bit, but it stopped when it was still nearly twice the size of the other one. It doesn't hurt unless I perform a lot of activity, but there is a hard lumpish area on the side (almost like a blood clot?). My scrotum looks very bruised, but doesn't really hurt. The bruised area has moved from the front to the back of my scrotum and changed colors. It varies between the color of fresh blood and nearly black.

As far as I can tell everything still works. But I am worried about the hard area and the long term swelling.

I would rather not go to the doctor, but I'm worried I can't just walk this one off. If someone could help me understand what is wrong, and if I should go to the doctor that would be great. I'm only 18 and don't want to have any serious complications.

Go to the doctor. They need to do an ultrasound to make sure the testicles are still functioning properly. The longer you wait the less chance they can save the testicles if something is wrong. My son recently got kneed pretty hard in the scrotum playing basketball. He is only 14. He was very swollen on the right side. It went down a great deal after 5 days, but the pain last longer. He is restricted from any sports activities for 3 weeks. Hope this helps.
