I too just started experiencing this pain down my right thigh. I noticed it happens sporadically but usually when I'm tired and been sitting too long or walking too long. I am very active, work out everyday mostly twice a day with HIIT type training. I am 44. I'm starting to think that my spine is the problem and compressing a certain nerve. Haven't been to doctor bc I don't want medication, I want actual treatment. Ugh! Hate the medical process of X-rays, then MRI, etc. Good luck to us all.
I find relief in stretching my back immediately. Either bend over or bring your knee to you chest.

I too have this electrical shock in my right thigh. It is severe, lasts a couple seconds but is frequent. I can't stand for long periods of time, can't sit nor at this point even drive because I can't lift my leg to brake and if I press on the gas pedal the pain seems to worsen. Steroids helped but I could feel the shock wave but it was a dull pain not the lightening bolt shock. It's been constant over a month now. The doctors say herniated disc, bulging disc or sacroillitis. The doctor stated today to wait another six weeks to see if it goes away. OMG, this pain drops my and I scream when it comes on. I'm at a loss. Was hoping for an answer when I Googled the symptoms. Seems the doctors really don't know what this problem is... My back is in pain, the back of my left leg has shooting pains but nothing like the right side. I'm scared to move or excerise. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them.

I suffered fromthe same problem on and off. Never completely off, just less pain for a couple of years. Recently got an attack of a simple honest back pain and went to a chiropractor. Guess what as he fixed my spine, my other problem went away too

This just started for me 2 days ago and I'm ready to scream. It hurts so bad. Mid front of thigh. Sharp pain like a knife for about 20 seconds or so. It's been getting worse. Possibly a pinched nerve?

I have that exact same pain. Its like someone stabs me in the upper thigh with an ice pick and hits the nerve and it shoots to my big toe. It has been very bad for about 3 days now. Woke me up in the night and was continuous for about 30 min.

Initially I had pain on my inner, lower left thigh. It is the femoral nerve. It connects somewhere in the L2-L4 area, I believe. The physical therapist helped me to pinpoint this. Recently it has happened to the front middle of my thigh. It is a deep pain, not superficial and not burning. It is shooting electrical pulses that cause me to halt and grab my thigh in pain. For me, some kind of very light "traction" on my spine helps. I do down-dog (yoga) or hang by my hands. Long periods of sitting (travel) usually precede the pain. Going to the chiropractor tomorrow. Ask your doctor to look at the nerve where it starts in your spine. It might be impinged somehow. My MRI showed beginning of a disk issue at L4.

I had two new episodes of this type of lightning shooting pain, but fortunately pretty mild, down the front of my right thigh this week -- once when I was standing at the kitchen counter, and this morning when I first woke up, lying flat on the bed. Reading all your replies here is helpful. Don't know if this new thigh pain is related to similar to nerve pain I've had in my throat and ear on and off over the past couple of years. Sometimes that pain got so bad I drop to my knees for about 10 seconds. MRI of the neck did not show anything. Best thing was acupuncture. She said that I had frozen muscles behind my shoulder blade that were causing an impingement on the nerve. Was OK after 3-4 acupuncture treatments, but it's starting to come back a little.

If I am understanding you all correctly, I have this too. Mine is about 4" above my knee. I get a jolt when going up stairs, sometimes walking, standing up from sitting and sometimes just sitting there doing nothing. I have done some physical therapy where they did dry needling, foam rolling and other things. Nothing has helped.

Try increasing your nutrition . As your active . The body will be experiencing stress . Which releases cortisol into the muscles to gain protein.
It could be the body's way of letting you know output isn't matching input . Nutrition. Food. Electrolytes. Minerals
