There is no way that you can recover from brain surgery from 1-4 weeks ! I don't know where you got that information from. You are giving this person false information. Be careful what you say to someone in this situation. I had brain surgery 3 times now. it can take 8 or more weeks.

I am a 73 male and had a Left Frontoparietal Craniotomy resection of Meningioma  of about 5cm X 6cm X 5cm on Dec 12, 2012.  My mother’s sister had a larger benign meningioma remove when she was 46, which she describes to be about the size of an orange, the good news she is in her mid-80s and doing well.

I was discharged the 3 day after surgery and I have recovered mentally pretty well, today is Jan 30, 2013. I feel sharper mentally than before surgery.   I have had NO muscle control loss at all.  The original symptom was difficulty talking, starting in June 2012.  By the time of surgery, the symptoms went from 1 x month to 2 x month, the talking problem would only last about 2-3 minutes.

Physically, the surgeon prepared me for possibility of problems with my right side, hand and so on, but thank God, none of that happened.  I walk about 1 mile over hilly terrain and feel good.  I take 1000mg Keppra twice a day, as a preventive measure, and I hope to go off of Keppra in about 6-9 months.  My EEG, taken about a week ago was normal.

I do become fatigued more quickly such as when attending a Seminar or attending basketball games.  I am told that this should go away in a few months.

My wife, a nurse, is cautious and has asked me not to drive until I see the surgeon on Feb 7.  Not driving is the irritating to be dependent on others for simply getting out of the house.

My father is 67, diabetic & had hypertension. He had his surgery on 31 jan 2013 in India for meningioma 2.5x4.5cm in left frontal parasaggital region. Complete resection of tumor in surgery was successful. However, he didn't speak once he was reversed from anathesia in ICU. CT scan showed post surgical edema more than expected & being treated with drugs (mannitol). Then his BP became low, had to be on ventilator for a night. He is having very little senses on his rightside. Then his BP improved following day & came off the ventilator. They tried liquid diet thro' a nasal tube on 3rd day & had to be stopped due to stomach bloating. Today is 5th day & he is still in ICU not speaking & not moving right arm & leg.
Drs always said 2days ICU & 7 or 8 days hospitalisation. His symptoms were 5 brief (<1min) slurring over the past 5 months. Now Dr says my father's age 67 is a factor & will eventually be ok.
I didn't mean to scare anyone, just to make everyone to be aware of things and seek info/advice from others.

Also tell whether there are risks involved of any sort of body damage after the surgery and please also tell if there is any side effects of the plate they put to replace the skull bone they remove for operation. I will be very thankful to you. Stay healthy. GOD bless you.

I had surgery for a 3.5 x 4.5cm meningioma. The meningioma was affecting my right arm (there was numbness).

Nearly a year and a half later, I have some continuing numbness on my right arm,. but can move it. No problems with the titanium plate, but there is an indenture where they cut my skull. I was walking around the first week, but was off work for about a month.

Your brother's recovery may be easier or more difficult,. depending on where it is and the surgery required to remove it. Good chances for a complete recovery!

Jim and to everyone. I had an orange sized tumor removed five weeks ago. A seizure took me to the ER. I was in and out of the hospital in six days and experience nothing but more alert behavior, despite the anti-seizure meds. I credit my age (45M), great physical stamina, and luck. I pray for all of you that are recovering with side effects. It is now my purpose in life to spread my blessing to everyone. You are alive. It is easy to rely on negativity after such an injury to the brain. Please, for your own benefit as well as others around you, see a therapist and a psychologist for mental health. Expressing feelings and meds make a huge difference in our outlook. Happiness or misery relies on disposition rather than circumstances. Bless you all. Steve

I had a tumor removed from my brainstem 2 16 days ago going out makes me very tired I was in ICU for 3 days and left the hospital for home after 5 days. I m not taking any medications since I left the hospital that includes pain medication. I have noticed a slight laziness in my right eye as well as get tired easy but I am going to try driving a short distance in a few days to see how I feel I still have a small portion of tumor in my brain stem and will get some treatment for that in the next few weeks depending on my continued progress. Good luck to you.

I disagree. 1 week is, obviously, probably not correct. But 4 weeks. I'm walking proof. At 3 weeks I was chomping at the bit to get back on with things, but medical release wasn't happening. I finally got medical release at 4 weeks and was back at work that same day. The tiredness was gone after 2 weeks, I was back being social and out @ 3 weeks. Depends on the person, their ability to recover, and overall physical condition, but a 4 week turn around is possible.

Ok. I'm English. I had a seizure, hospitalised, MRI showed a squash-ball sized brain tumour. Ten days of steroids then a seven hour operation. I woke up fine and had a lovely cup of tea and an excellent curry. 48 hours in the blue room where I had another seizure. Most of the time there I slept but when I was awake I was fine, a bit confused sometimes. Ten days on the neuro ward (could shuffle about on day one there I think) then discharged. For about a year after I got very tired physically and could walk, just shuffling and not very far before needing to stop for a rest. I had Frontal Lobe Syndrome and got very confused about the world at times. I was on Olanzapine, which helped, but went from 12 stones (168 pounds) down to 10 stones (140 pounds) then back up to 15 stones (210 pounds). I am six feet tall. I was off work for a year then discharged. I carried on recovering for a year and got a part-time job for six months then a full time one. I count myself very lucky that it was a benign tumour and that we have the NHS here in the UK.

By the way I said I went up to 15 stones (210 pounds). I got back down to 13 stones (156 pounds) by stopping eating cakes and chocolate and eating fruit instead. Also I can walk as normal now so I go for a walk around town sometimes. All in all it seems to have been a bigger deal to other people than me.
