I had meningioma at c2-c3 level which got operated 4 months back. During post operative period I was on ventilator for 39 days. I had problem like extreme pain in shoulder and hands, hallucination, couldn't sleep in flat position, sleeping disorder, breathing pattern change, no bowel and bladder sensation, tremors, no limb movements. After physiotherapy my left hand working better than right hand. I couldn't walk normally that's why ineed support, my right side is much weaker. After three months I could sleep but still my bed position is in 30 degree and I could sleep only in supine position. Now my breathing capacity increase (I can breath upto 1100 through spirometer) but still breathing pattern is not normal (reverse), my hands are working normally but still there is a extreme stretching pain in right and left shoulder and I have to take pain killer for that, I cant walk normally. After removing catheter (urine bag) there is nowbladder control and i am using diaper when i was out. No bowel sensation so i am taking medicine and using enema. Please guide me when I will be in normal position and give me the solution for stretching pain.

Hi-I had a meningioma removed 4 weeks ago today (8th april 2013).my face is `frozen`,as though i`d been to the dentist.I have dreadful double vision (which is so bad that it is ncessary to wear a patch over one eye) and am unsteady on my feet.I am also deaf in one ear,the left, which is the numb side.I have not been given an estimated recovery period,as it has been intimated that it could take months.I naturally worry that these affects are going to be permanent. am 66 years of age and up until last november i was living an active life swimming, cycling and painting and decorating.I have a daughter who is 10 years old,and i am missing out so much on ger company.Like many others on these pages I have undergone a life changing event and reading some of your comments has given me hope for the future.I wish you all the best in your lives.

Thank you for caring enough to make your comments.I had brain surgery (meningioma) on monday 11/04/2013 and was on my lap top on the following Wednesday,as well as completing The Times crossword on the following Thursday. The operating neurosurgeon referred to me as `a tough old egg`.I find determination to be a spur, but i am not crestfallen when i suffer a setback.I know i still have a lot of obstacles to overcome (deafness of one ear, imbalance, numbness of half of my head and terrible double-vision,necessitating an eye patch, along with tiredness),but with perseverence and belief then I will recover.Good luck with your recovery.

I wish I posted my experience much earlier in my "head issue". My initial onset leading to a craniectomy and finally a craniplasty was from a drunken fall this last New Years. I had bleeding under the skull and was pretty much K'Od. All in all pain wise wasn't bad but definitely uncomfortable without a piece of my head. I had to wear a hockey helmet for 2 months. Humbling. Most symptoms seemed to be more concussion than anything as my brain didn't shift and luckily no damage. I did get a CSF (hygroma) buildup which was like a big spongy bubble baseball size. they just drained it at the craniplasty and all good at this point. That was march, I feel great, back in graduate school and enjoying life. The swelling was my biggest gripe, takes nearly 7 weeks to really go down.

Having this surgery next month. Your statement gives me positive hope for recovery. Being tired can be fixed with exercise. I can deal with this being the only problem.

Thank you for sharing. What were your symptoms prior to surgery? Where was your meningioma located?
Anyone else have a skull based Tentorial meningioma? Would be most grateful if you are willing to share you story. I have been diagnosed and am trying to figure out which treatment surgery or gamma knife and which dr. Very confusing as neurosurgeons say surgery and neuroradiologists say gamma knife. Both sides present compelling arguments.
Thanks

Hi.
My girlfriend (22 years old)had brain surgery in March 2013(right frontal side). They eliminate most of tumor and necrosis and it was size about 6cm x 3cm-it was astrocytoma diffuse(grade2). She was two weeks in hospital with left side(arm, leg and face ) immovable. She goes to rehabilitation two months and two weeks(she still there). Now she could walk with stick but not move fingers on left leg. She could not move forearm and fingers on left arm but in shoulder she could. Face is almost totally normal and memory and spoke is tottaly normal.
They cannot tell as how long should it take to almost full recovery or if she will recover.
If anyone had similar recovery please write me here.
