i just had
I am on day two of having my tonsils out- Im in australia so they favour the soft eating approach, I was fine after the surgery the nurses called me little miss sunshine as i just smiled, sat upright and fed myself ice as soon as i came around- No problems bouncing back from the anaesthetic- First night i ate a chicken risotto (lots of chewing) I have had instant whipped pudding, jelly, meal replacement shakes and some soup i have been unable to get more than 20 mins sleep in blocks as my windpipe blocks over and i wake up freaking out. The pain has been well managed so far and i have drank 6 litres of water in 24hrs-
It now 11.56am the next day and i am much sorer- the white scabs have started to form and the medication is making my stomach a bit sore, my ear is popping in an out but all around its not to bad- I am able to eat mashed potatoes, and all other soft food its a bit harder today than yeterday but i know that eating whilst i can is important as it gets worse as the throat heals and scabs form!
Strepsils lozenges help- Gatorade is great (only the blue one) Grape stings.

I am 15, and on day 6 of my recovering state. Waking up from the anesthesia wasnt bad at all, i havent been nauseous or anything yet. My doctor perscribed me with one tylenol and two morphine every four hours which, does a slightly good job of numbing the pain, but does an amazing job getting you some rest. The first day back was drouzy and easy going, i had fish and chips, which was painful and my Uvula made it difficult for me to swollow solid foods, but i coped. Day 2 and 3 were painful, and the horrible taste and bad breathe is just devastating, especially for me, i have hygeine issues, i hate that stuff. A peice of advice i will share is, you dont have to drink tuns of water, I mean, you should because your suppose to but i didnt, FOCUS ON SLEEPING, when you sleep thats when your body heals the best, so when your taking medication every four hours that puts you in a sleepy haze, then you can get through this thing easily.
Spitting up the mucus and the scabs is so annoying and painful, i was doing that this moning and last night, ITS DISCUSTING! The ear pain i think is by far the worst. I admit that i whined and complained and did my share of bitching, but i think thats all part of it. How can you not b***h when your stomach is growling so bad cuz your so hungry and your just craving that cheeseburger, and everyone is eating all your favourite foods infront of you and drinking your favourite drinks! I couldnt have thanksgiving turkey or anything this weekend thanks to this stupid surgery.
DONT DRONK DAIRY PRODUCTS , it wont go down so well. For me, the past 6 days i had no energy what so ever, i couldnt even stand in the shower, but i took lots of baths, and i had to be bathed by my mother because i was so drugged on morphine, my mothers support helped me through this and she stayed at home with me and bought me whatever juice and food i wanted just to get me healthy again. Her best friend lent me her xbox 360, and her boyfriend (who came over a lot to visit me BOUGHT ME GTA4) so that i didnt have to be bored when i was laying in bed. Anyways, like i said, no energy, im alone today, and as im typing now i can literally taste the smell of my breathe, and i just got out of the bath.. i was sitting in it relaxing, and all of a sudden i coughed, chunks and chunks of gushy gunk come out ( scabs ) and im forcing them out now cuz im gagging, i literally had such low energy that i was getting light headed just trying to cough, i started to panic at my dizzyness and i called my mother scared and upset. To be honest i dont know how the scabs go, wether you hack them up, or they dissolve, but right now i just wanna get rid of the horribly taste, and bad breath, THATS the only thing that made me cry once, i think i have halitosis. I finally got to have a little meat yesterday but it was still painfull, i also have watermelon, i went DAYS without eating i was just to stubborn. I honestly didnt drink tuns and tuns of water, i had more juice than i did water, and i hardly had any juice. I'll tell you one thing, i completely devoured an ice cap from Tim Hortons, but caffine makes my stomach upset and give me headaches, so i paid for that later. Right now my throaand ears are a 6.5 out of 10, and thats without swallowing. Anyways i am going to go have breakfast now, and watch King of The Hill and try to enjoy myself while i still can. Hope i helped.

alright, so basically i just read all of this feed and can relate to all of it, (some of it does scare the sh*t out of me though). so basically since its 12:30 am its the 7th day including op day. im in excruciating pain and i want to rip these god awful scabs of so i can go back to my life! im supposed to work again Wednesday but since in high on hydrocodone idt that will happen.. BTW technically i haven't tried this but lil wayne (american rapper) uses hydrocodone as a drug, he mixes it with vitamin water? idk not much of a rap fan but i was searching the web and found that so i figured i might try it.. just food for thought..
day 1:
woke up asking the nurse when i could have more surgery cuz it was so easy.. went home.. crashed...
day 2, 3:
the hell started.. and the wretched bad taste in my mouth.. i currently want to sleep 24/7 just so i dont have to deal with that taste...
day 4,5,: same really, ear pains started to get worse though, on the fifth day i could eat later in the afternoon, couscous as well as egg noodles, thats all Ive really had. naturally im a water drinker but during this recovery i havnt been able to swallow much so more on the less water side, i have however found that drinking fizzy drinks soothes the pain very much.. (dr. pepper) even though im not a pop drinker.. my pain is still manageable for the moment but annoying enough to not be able to sleep.. (hence why im reading this at 12:30). i really am very sick of this taste.. and at this point would do anything to get rid of it... well.. hope everyone has recovered very well and is well, best of luck! god bless ~ krob :'( :'( :'( :'(

:-( let me sum it up for you. im on day 4. yes, painful but bearable. REST REST REST, DRINK DRINK DRINK and youll be fine. the uvula is large but suck on some ice and itll go down. dont try to talk to early!! give it at least four days! good luck to all- really not that bad of a surgery
Hi! I'm almost 15 and I had my tonsils out last Wednesday, I am on day 7. When I first came out of surgery I didn't have any pain, I was able to drink apple juice and jello. But when I came home I threw up every time I got up, it all went down hill from there. Days 2-4 were pretty agonizing, I forced myself to eat small foods like noodles, Rice, and cracker, it was hard to swallow-not so much the pain but I just couldn't get it to go down, it would get stuck in the pockets where my tonsils used to be and that's when it hurt. I had heard that days 5-9 are to worst, and I agree 100%. every time I wake up I get SEVERE ear pains and a slight head ache. I can't sleep through the night, I'm always tired and hungry. I've been eating Popsicles but it hurts to open my mouth but I try. I haven't really found anything that helps.
My uvula is also swollen apon swollen. I can't lay on my back because it blocks my airway and I can't breathe. I'm not sure what the scabs are supposed to look like but I have odd red pimple-like things stuck on my throat. I have read probably about 30 posts from other people, and they are really making me feel good, I don't feel completely alone now some people are saying to eat/drink cold this but others are saying warm, I'm not sure which to try
No one ever told me about what was going to happen through all of this, which makes me mad. They should tell us that were being put into hell for the next 2 weeks!! I hope you all get better soon!! :D
I am 27 years old and am on day 10 of my tonsillectomy recovery. I never imagined that it would be as painful as it has been. I was very sensitive to cold so I found room temperature drinks much better. On day 5 I got rushed to the ER because I began throwing up an acidy content (I didn't eat anything until day 6) It turns out that I wasn't getting in enough liquids due to the pain of swallowing. No matter how much it hurts, get those liquids down! I'm still struggling eating and swallowing on day 10 and can't wait until the scabs come off and the swelling goes down. Enough is enough. Good luck adults getting this done... Horrible, painful experience!
hi,im 18 years old and I just had my tonsils removed on tuesday may 10. I have been feeling pain in the front of my throat. I have a very bad sensitivity to loud sounds and any form of elevation makes me sick to my stomach. I'm at a point where I dont want to think about taking my meds without almost throwing up. I have thrown up blood and plehm, but I guess thats normal? eh Anyway,I went to school on May the 13 and I feel 100 times worse then I felt already. Maybe that wasnt the smart thing to do.
And now when I spit up,whatever this stuff is,its taste nasty and sticks to everything. Does anyone know whats going on?

Today is day 5 after surgery. I must say though I have been in a lot of pain I haven't gone crazy with it, I have managed it. I have been sleeping none stop for the last 4 days. I've also made a big effort to drink and eat, though it hurts, I've done it as I don't want to feel worse out of being weak and having gastritis. I'm really scared that the really unbearable pain will hit me in the next two days.
Okay so I just got a tonsillectomy this morning at the age of 16, and today has been alright. Had a little pain in my tongue, throat, and uvula, but not so much there. I found that for meds, prednasone(steroids) help with the swelling a little bit, get some tylenol and codiene cough syrup, it helps with the headaches and pain a little bit. Also pain meds help so much, I was unable to swallow them because my uvula is swollen, so i chewed them up to mush and drank it down. As for foods/drinks and talking, do not talk at all for the first few days, it helps in the long run. Drinks, try to only drink water at first, make sure it's cold(even if it hurts, you need to get ice-cold water down it helps a lot.) Foods, try to eat Ice-cream for a little bit at first, that helped me the most and went down the easiest, then start on yogurts, gogurts, popsicles, those sorts of things, nothing chunky it tended to be hard to get down when i tried tapioca pudding. Don't eat any sort of hot foods, or have anything with citrus or that sort of thing. If you decide to try soup, don't do it the first or maybe second day, wait a little bit and when you do it, make sure to only cook the broth, and don't have it that warm. Do not hack or do anything with your throat, just swallow and breathe as you need to. I was told that if you treat it right, the uvula should go down after the first night maybe a little later. I'm actually looking quite forward to this, as i have had problems with my tonsils for years(just never told anyone which was pretty stupid xD) but this last time they had gotten to category 4+(guess it's like the worst, and if I waited any longer i could have been hospitalized :/.)
This is my 4th day from having my tonsils out. Ive never been so down and in pain in all my life. I am a 16 year old girl and counting down the days to when this is going to end! I heard its around 10 days? the mornings are the worst, my throat is so so dry and swollen. I wake up at 3:15am every morning. Ive lost 5 pounds up to now and cant hardly eat anything, im making sure i am drinking loads of water, just waiting for it to be over. I regret having it done, but in the long run, all this pain must be worth something eh?
I use the Electronic Vapor Cigarettes. Work great (Blu Cig disposables $8 at Walgreens) I don't think I will go back to regular smoking ever again after 10 years. It doesn't seem to effect my recovery or scabs.
hey everyone im 18 and had my surgery 10 days ago....well from the start everything was going wrong they gave me fentenyl as my ansethetic and i had an allergic reaction to it(TERRIBLY ITCHY!!) so they gave me benedryl that helped tremendoulsy. day 2 was terrible my uvula was so swollen and my tounge was swollen. i had to be rushed to the er and treated for another allergic reaction to liquid hydrocodone(vicoden)..I have never been allergic to anything, never had any knid of complcations util this.. all i did was sleep couldnt force water or food down even with the pain meds...after leaving the E.R. they took me off anykind of pain medecine in fear of another allergic reaction. i went two days with out and pain relief... the best i could do was use my mother soda as ice packs becuase they were colder than ice to me. day 6-10 have still been hard but it is getting easier. on day 9 i finished a full atorade in an hour so i felt extremely accomplished this was also the first day that i ate anything due to extreme pain and swelling. My scabs have not fell off yet and i am weaning myself off of the pain meds due to random headaches it does get better. This was only my second surgery and hopefully my last. I had my Wisdom teeth removed about a year ago and the pain was not near what i am going through now....
I am a35 year old male, in good shape and healthy. I had my tonsils removed 4 days ago, days 2 and 3 were rough, today I woke up with the same pain but as the day went on it subsided quite a bit. I am still on a soft food diet, but feel like I am out of the woods. The first three days were painful and very uncomfortable, i felt like i had a full body workout the day before because every muscle in my body was extremely sore, it was hard to get up and move around. I slept ok each night and I made myself drink plenty of water daily! I was prescribed liquid Tylenol and liquid oxycodone, I took them as prescribed and don't feel the need for them any longer, hopefully the worst is over.
29 male here, just had my tonsils taken out on 4/18 at 8:30am. Day 1 (day of surgery) wasn't that bad, I slept most of the time, drank lots of water, had plain shaved ice to suck on and let sit against the back of my mouth. I was given endocet for pain, pill form, which due to the swollen uvula can be a pain to take, but it works soooooooo good. Haven't really ate anything since the night before the surgery. I have been drinking some watered down chicken broth, watered down gatorade, and thats about it. Haven't been able to eat much until just a few hrs ago, I had some mashed potatoes and sherbert. The pain hasn't been that bad, the worst part is the frustration with not being able to eat anything because of the uvula, but that has gone down a bit today. I have had a humidifier going 24/7 since the surgery, and drink water whenever I can, and so far it has been ok. I hear days 4-8 can get worse, so I will try and report back. But I plan on following the doctors orders to a T. Soft foods, lots of water, and don't exert yourself for anything. I have been in bed almost the entire time, gets boring, but neflix and a laptop help. Just had a lil bit of scabs fall out, but no bleeding, so hopefully that is ok.
