Hi I'm 17 years old and am I female, I'm on day 6 and my scabs started falling off on day 5! It's completely normal to start coming off between 5-10 (my moms a ENT Dr and told me that!) everyone's experience is different and their pain tolerance is different but personally for me, the scabs coming off sucks. It's a really sharp pain that leaves me breathless for like 5-10 seconds and then it just goes away and u don't even notice it but small pieces of the scab comes off and you just swallow it. Hopefully it ends soon cause waking up throughout the night and in the morning to take my meds is the worst it hurts badly then!! Just make sure you take your medicine, drink plenty of fluids (Gatorade really helps!), keep ice packs on ur neck it helps with ear pain and it feels nice going into ur throat, suck on ice chips if you can, and try staying positive and optimistic because that's what's getting me through this! Suffer for a week or two and be relieved of ur tonsil pain you became so used to for ever!! Hope this helped! Ps just try sleeping as if ur sitting up it rlly helps!!
I should have had my tonsils removed a long time ago.but I'm on day 4 and I feel like someone is hanging me from my head. My head ache is terrible! And is it just me or when I eat something it just taste plain gross like to where I can just puke it up. Every thing just taste so bad I'm also very very light headed probably because lack of eating. I honestly just want this to stop. In all honesty this was definitely not worth it
My granddaughter recently had a tonsillectomy and surgery 2 days later for a blood clot. Since then she is having bad headaches every day and missing school. She is only 11. Been back to the doctor and no better. What did your doctor tell you. I'm waiting for call back now from doctor.
I'm a seventeen year old female, and I had my tonsils/adenoids out seven (including the day of surgery) days ago for obstructive sleep apnea - I have to have another surgery (specifically a plastic surgery) in a few more years to completely correct the problem.
Anyways, I'd like to share my journey thus far.
Day one: I was at the hospital at seven in the morning. I slept absolutely none the night before - I was beyond terrified. I met all of my doctors - my surgeon, anesthesiologist, and etc. I cried due to my nervousness, and they really helped calm me down. My surgery was pretty long (we were told it should last up to forty-five minutes, but my surgery took two hours long). I woke up confused. I couldn't hear, and my ears hurt beyond belief. I slept most of this day.
Days two-four: I have taken absolutely no pain medication, but I also haven't left bed (except for the pee the once a day I had been). It hurt to swallow, so I avoided it as much as possible. I had a cup next to me so I could spit into it - I had an excessive amount of saliva and didn't want to swallow more than I absolutely had to. My uvula is also swollen, and I choke on it if I lay on my back.
Days five-current: I have made it out of bed - bathing is probably the most painful as it hurts to tilt my head back to wash my hair. I have started to eat, too. I have eaten things such as: mashed potatoes, applesauce, sherbet, chicken noodle soup, rice. I still haven't taken any pain medicine. My throat is starting to feel tight, and my uvula is still swollen. I can still barely hear, and I have no taste. I also can't talk, and I struggle to walk (which walking is my fault because I didn't leave bed for quite a few days).
My scabs are still intact, and I don't think my body plans on letting me lose them any time soon. I've already created a list of hard, scratchy foods for when they do, though!
My advice for you all: drink. I know it hurts, but when trying to swallow with dryness hurts much, much worse.
I hope all of your healings go smoothly!
