I just turned 15 and for the past few month I have been noticing veins on the back of my legs (behind my knees) that have turned a really dark blue. They look like cords that are twisted and tangled. They are really painful at night or when I don't move very much. And if i touch them it feels like I'm poking a bruise and is quite painful. My mother got varicose veins when she was 25, and i heard its very rare for a teenager to get it.
Do I have varicose veins? If not, what could it be?
Are their things i can do to reduce pain?
Should I visit a doctor?
Is their any way to prevent getting more?

They sure sound like varicose veins. Graduated compression stockings or (over the calf) socks may be helpful.
