I got a nose job back in December 2018, and it is now July 2021. The tip of my nose is still swollen with scar tissue with a possible poly break. Steroid injections are sort of helping, but not really. I can feel the tip of my nose, the skin isn’t totally attached to the new cartilage because it’s swollen. What can I do? So frustrating

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing complications following your rhinoplasty. Swelling, especially around the nasal tip, can be one of the most persistent post-operative symptoms, but if you're still experiencing significant swelling and other concerns nearly three years post-operatively, it's essential to address them.
Here are some steps and considerations:
-
Consult with Your Original Surgeon: Your surgeon should be aware of your concerns and can provide guidance based on your specific procedure and the post-operative course. They can evaluate the scar tissue, the possible poly beak deformity (which is a raised, rounded fullness above the tip of the nose often due to excessive scar tissue or not enough cartilage removal), and other aspects of your healing process.
-
Second Opinion: If you're not getting answers or solutions from your original surgeon, it might be worthwhile to seek a second opinion from another board-certified plastic surgeon experienced in rhinoplasty. They can offer a fresh perspective on your situation.
-
Additional Treatments: Steroid injections can help reduce scar tissue and inflammation, but they need to be used judiciously as overuse can lead to skin thinning and other complications. If steroid injections aren't providing satisfactory results, discuss other potential treatments or interventions with your surgeon.
-
Revision Rhinoplasty: In some cases, if non-surgical methods don't yield desired results, a revision rhinoplasty may be considered to address issues that persist after the primary surgery. However, revision surgeries can be more complex, so it's crucial to have an experienced surgeon evaluate the feasibility and potential outcomes.
-
Massage and Skincare: Some surgeons recommend gentle massage techniques to improve scar tissue flexibility and to promote skin adherence. Always check with your surgeon before starting any post-operative care or treatments on your nose.
Good luck.
