I am experiencing the same thing. My left thigh is asleep and it hurts really bad. Can not seem to shake it. Numb to the touch, pins and needles, and getting up and moving does not help immediately. I am going to a chiroprator to see if that helps. I am a type 2 diabetic. It is not in my feet or hands.

WOW . . thank you soooo much! I looked up the Meralgia Paresthetica and that's it! Its a bit of a relief for sure. Mine started 2 years ago, which is about the time I started gaining some weight due to surgeries on both feet over a 9mo period of time . and i am in my 50's and finding it harder to lose the extra now. Its on the right upper thigh and it often wakes me up at night .,. the "tingling" has gotten a bit worse and feels more like worms under the skin moving around . . ugh . . .then the burning and numbness and sensitivity. Oddly enough it also seems to appear and get worse when i have keys in my pocket near right thigh . .go figure? Thank you so much for this information!

I am having the same problem with my left thigh. It started after year of having a small bulge on my left disc. My neurologist suggested me to go for ophysical theraphy and take Lyrica for couple of months. The pain from my disc kind of relieved, but the pain in my left thigh started few months back when I stand still for few m inutes. It does not happen when I sit or walk or lie down. I have no blood pressure or diabitics. I am weighed 16olbs. However, I gained 4-5 pounds recently. Now, I am told to rest my left leg on a high platform when standing. Also my doctor told me to use an aesthetci patch when I know that I would be standing for long such going to church. Lyrica may be a good drug, but has so many side effects. Pin shots may be a temporary relief. I plan to lead a healthy life in all respects and do mild exercises. Good Luck!

Thank you for this. Meralgia Paresthetica is definitely what I am experiencing. I plan on wearing looser clothes and losing some weight!

I'm glad I'm not alone! I have the tingling in my left outer thigh and is numb to the touch. It started a few months ago. I thought it would go away on its own but, that has not been the case. I am 28 and a bit overweight (right-handed, too).

I am a 78 year old man with exact the same problem: I would have a uncomfortably tingling numbness on my right thigh while lying in bed day or night for resting or sleeping after a little while. It has been for 3 weeks now. I will be seing my PCP: Dr Zhihao Dai in 3 days, hoping he would have a solution for my problem.

I SO AGREE WITH THIS ANSWER.... I am the overweight person - with so many of the pain and aches from being overweight..... it is not easy to loose , but a PILL and SURGERY IS NOT ALWAYS THE ANSWER--- I have the same pain in my hips - feels like needles --- I see that all the answers could be it and most for sure the WEIGHT.... THANKS

I suffer the same symptoms and went to a chiropractor. The sensory nerve gets compressed/twisted/pinched between the ITB & other thigh muscles and needs to be loosened/restored to normal function. It is very common and he has put me on a regimen of stretching the upper leg, some cycling to promote blood flow & muscle movement, and sessions of deep massage, heat pack & acupuncture with interferential pulse. When I forget to do the stretches, it returns, meaning his treatment and diagnosis is perfectly on-point! Exercise, exercise people! This is caused/compounded by a sedentary lifestyle, and while other origins/causes are known, stretching is the easiest and cheapest route to take. Why pay someone to force you to do it?!! But get it confirmed, by all means, and find out what's best and fits with related dynamics in your body/experience.
