i had the same things, referred to them as seeds. I would actually use the handle of my toothbrush and poke them out just by prodding my tonsils from different sides. A bunch worked out, some the size of a pea or bigger! I squished on and it stunk to high heaven, so I figured that might be contributing to bad breath. I went to the ENT, told him I thought they were making my breath stink despite great brushing habits. He said, "So you want me to take your tonsils out?" and I said, "Yes." To which he responded, "Ok." And that was that. I literally requested he remove the tonsils because they were capturing the seeds and creating stinky breath. A week of being sore, and a month of having difficulty pronouncing the "L" sound in words, and I was healed and seed free!

hey ya a get them too and to answer all your questions and reallly sovle this annoying problem then ONLY solution that works is to take a flashlight and look in your throat and gently rub it off with a toothpick...it doesnt hurt if u do it gently jus a little uncomfortable but IT WORKS....i get them very often and i have learned to put it behind me by simply doing that then brushing my teeth right after... the bad breath goes away and until the next tie i have one im fine!!!!!!!!!!! hope it helps you guys! :D

Earlier in the post history, someone mentioned nasal cleansing. I have been experimenting with ways to eliminate/control the stones and the nasal rinse so far has had the most dramatic effect. Of course, I have coupled that with increased oral hygene (salt water gargling, tongue scraping, etc.) Many have gargled with salt water, dilluted peroxide, or apple cider vinegar. I've 'soaked' several stones that I saved in each of these solutions and none of them actually dissolved the stone once it was formed. The apple cider vinegar, however, did seem to mask the odor quite well. So, once they are formed, there doesn't seem to be much you can other than pop them out. So the issue is how to prevent new ones from forming; I have been having some success with nasal rinsing but it's still to early for me to say if that is the cure for me. I make a rinse out of warm salt water and a touch of baking soday and just snort it up from the cup... kind or weird looking but it doesn't make me gag and I don't have to deal with cleaning a dropper/baster thingy.

I would totally recommend getting a tonsillectomy. Think about it, if every once and awhile you're able to see bits of the tonsil stones imagine what's lying beyond the surface? That's totally what happened to me. I saw an ENT and had my tonsils removed 6 days ago and the surgeon told my husband afterwards that my tonsils were in much worse shape then they appeared to be. They were filled with tonsil stones and were most likely the cause of constant low grade infections. The recovery has been a roller coaster from hell but it's totally do-able. You just need a lot of time of work and some T3. And I'm so excited to not have to spend 10 minutes a day in front of the mirror examining my tonsils and trying to get nasty c**p out.

I have had tonsil stones for as long as I can remember. I never understood the problem until I noticed a huge white ball in the back of my throat a couple of years ago. When I say huge - I mean nearly the size of a dime. At that point I started researching. I never understood the bad breath or the constant sore throats. I now knew the culprit!
After my research I learned how to remove these balls with a water pick. Well, I got inspired to find apermanent solution today. I was doing the usual... picking these nasty balls out of my throat (with the water pick) when all of a sudden I began bleeding from one of the cripts I just got the gunk out of. I thought the worst. This was serious blood. I made an appointment with my doctor - she can't see me until next week. I am seriously going to ask for the removal of my tonsils!
Hopefully I will have some better results to share with the masses. ;-)

well if there is a small space in the back of your throat were they can fit, then they will form there. regardless of the fact you had the tonsils removed or not. I was just researching tonsil stones today because the last few weeks I had started noticing the white things and removing them with a mouth pick thing. This sucks because anytime I go out I have to check now to make sure I dont have any. also I have this pocket that almost looks like its just a rip in my tonsil where they form. gonna have to see a specialist to see what I need to do.

I've had theses forever.. -_- They're so annoying!!! D<
and they're gross >->
They're really irritating >_< But now, im sorta used to it, so i just ignore them.
When they're really irritating me i pick them out with my finger >_> (or i just pick at them for fun, i know, its gross xD)
I only have them on my left side though. :/ Maybe its because the holes in my tonsils are bigger on the left
Meh, i dunno :~D
I only finally realized what these were a week ago. All my life i'd thought of them as "Flem balls" is what my parents told me, But i was sure it was something else. My mom and my sister looked up about it because i had been complaining about them for a while and found that they were Tonsil stones. My mom is like: "OH! LETS PICK THEM OUT WITH A TOOTH PICK! :-D" i dont really feel comfortable with an object that can be dropped if put down my throught, so i said no. I always thought that i had the worst condition of tonsil stones but then i looked at some pictures on google and i was like omg.. mine arn't THAT bad... Mine are barely visible (probably cuz i pick them off alot lol) Still they're annoying. But i dont want to go through surgery mostly because im scared :'( and im also scared to put a object down my throught o.O im very paranoid about... eh... alot of things owo..
So im just wondering... If i just leave them be without doing anything.... will it get worse? like, worse to the fact that i have to take serious action to them? Any suggestions?

I had the same problem for a year, I've seen my GP about 5 times about it, they've given me tablets, special mouthwash a swab and everything, they said that it's normal, the other day I used cotton bud to squeeze the stones out and blimey they come out of the tonsils from the inside, they're not only on the outside which you can see. Since I removed them I couldn't taste that awful breath as much anymore, it's there but very faint. I'm going to go back to the GP before the stones start growing back again.

I get them too. I called my cousin who's a nurse and asked her about them. She told me to get a special toothpaste because it's from bacteria build up. My case; I brushed my teeth to much, and if I don't do it once I wake up, after I eat, and before I go to bed.. tonsil stones will surface. I make it a more than 4 time's a day thing to brush my teeth. I had a tonsil stone this morning and it fell out when i got out of the shower. They will come out more if you brush the back of your tonuge while brushing your teeth, and you should use mouthwash. The best way to keep yourself from getting them is brush your teeth more than 2 times a day.

I am 34 yr old woman and I have dealt with these nasty things since high school if not earlier. My dentist has practically gagged but never told me what the problem was despite me asking him why my breath smelled so bad. I researched natural, non-surgical solutions. Installed an oral irrigator in my shower, which did help. I picked them out daily. I decided that I had had enough. I finally went to an ENT who agreed to do a tonsillectomy at my request. I was very nervous to do surgery due to the horrible pain people say about adults having the surgery.
3 days before my procedure...I had to be cleared by my PCP who basically accused me of being to fixated on it and that he would email his brother who was a top ENT in the country to see if it was INSANE to have my tonsils out. By the way, I was not obsessing, I just wanted to end the battle of dealing with these yucky stones. It ends up that his brother said it was a totally appropriate way to correct the issue. And my PCP who was ignorant that it is a reasonable option for some people, had to back peddle. I told him...people from his generation probably had their tonsils out as a kid and didn't know what it was like to deal with them.
So, I am 13days post op and it really wasn't that horrible. I hardly needed the liquid pain meds and I am healing just fine. I have two little kids to take care of. My mother in law did come for a couple nights to help get one off to school and watch the other while I heal. I say if you are scared to due the surgery at least there is one person out here that had it done as an adult and it wasn't that bad...I am sooo glad I did it and look forward to the results. NO STONES!!!

tonsils can grow back. especially when over 40 years have passed since surgery. even a bit of regrowth can cause crypts to form, which carry tonsil stones once again.

i know exactly how you feel. it takes all the joy out of life. i had this horrid problem for nine years. last month my tonsils were removed and for the first time i can smile because my breath is neutral and that metallic taste is gone and my tongue is pink. you have to get your tonsils removed. its the only way. worth the pain. take your life back.
