I'm 20 years old and had my tonsils out Tuesday, May 28th, 2013. It is now the 30th, almost 31st. I was terrified pre-op, but I'd really like to give some positive advice for those as afraid as I was. Hearing that the recovery was horrible for anyone adult age isn't very helpful for an already anxious person. The day of the surgery, I left  the hospital in minimal pain, the anesthesia made me feel sick, but after a few hours I felt normal. I came home and ate ramen noodles and immediately began to drink water. I am prescribed percocets to take 1 every 4 hours, and have also been doing so. I heard day 2 and 3 would be very painful, however day 2 was also very mellow. Since I have had so many cases of painful strep, these days honestly felt like a case of strep, except easier because the chills and flu like symptoms were not present. Today has been a little more painful, but a 5 tops on pain scales. The pain medication has been the most difficult part, making me feel anxious and light headed, but other than that, my throat hasn't been so bad. We'll see as the recovery goes on, but for anyone worried, keep your head up, hopefully your recovery will be like mine! Don't look too much online either like i did, misery loves company, and everyone recovers differently. much love.
