Hello! My sister’s kid was diagnosed with Toxiplasmosis. She had swollen lymph nodes in her neck for a few months that wouldn’t go away and that were tender. She took her to a pediatrician and he run some blood tests and found antibodies for this parasite. Can you tell me how long does this infection may last what the treatment is like? Thx

The thing with Toxiplasmosis is that the parasite stays in the body forever but most often it is in a latent form, which means that it is inactive and won’t cause any side effects unless person’s immune system is impaired. The symptoms usually go away after a few weeks or months, with or without a treatment in a healthy individual. In children with weakened immune system, the infection can be fatal if not found in time.
