Hi i get bv every now and then, but recently i have just had a smear test and it showed that i had trichomonas, i have not had sex with anyone except my partner of 3 years and i am 100% that he has not had sex with any either,the doc said its passed from one person who has it the person who is not infected. i have given antibiotics and the doc has informed me to get my partner checked too. as she said its a form of an STI. i have checked this on the net and there are many people explaining that they have got this infection whitout there partners having sex with any1 else? are you able to explain a bit more please. i am also aware that bv can be similar to this? or does it mean that i have caught this from my partner having sex with someelse???

Trichomoniasis is a parasite, not an infection. It's not a bacteria and you don't catch it like a cold or virus. Someone HAD to have gotten it. You can't get it from oral sex either. The protozoa can't survive.
The question is, when. Either of you could have had it for years.

Possible, yes. Trich can survive a short time out of the body.
