My sister was diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia. She has attacks of pain that last for few
second to a minute and are sharp and electric-shock like, as she says. That pain always affects only
one side of her head, actually, one side of her face. Recently she got that diagnosis after had several
exams. What is the most effective treatment of trigeminal neuralgia?

There are different ways for treatment of TN. It depends on severity of the disease, general patient’s
condition and doctor’s professional decision, I guess. My mother was taking carbamazepine and
baclofen because of trigeminal neuralgia. I know that this combination was very helpful for her.
Carbamazepine works well in early stages of the disease and baclofen is muscle relaxant. Phenitoin is
also prescribed in treatment of Tn and as I know oxcarbamazepine is newer and better one medication
with fewer side effects.
